Studies demonstrate that lifting weights can lead to increased muscle mass and strength, improved bone density, a higher resting metabolic rate, and a decrease in body fat. Some research also indicates a lower risk of all-cause mortality with regular weight training. Let’s gooo! 💪 Increased muscle mass and strength: Resistance training helps reverse or mitigate sarcopenia, the natural loss of muscle mass that occurs after age 40. For example, one 12-week study showed a 2% increase in muscle mass and significant gains in strength among premenopausal women.  Improved bone density: Weight-bearing exercises stimulate bone growth, which is crucial for reducing the risk of osteoporosis, especially after menopause.  Higher metabolic rate: Muscle tissue is more metabolically active than fat tissue, so building muscle mass can lead to a higher resting metabolic rate, which aids in weight management.  Reduced body fat: Studies show a correlation between weight training and decreased body fat. One study found that for each day per week a woman strength trained, body fat decreased by \(1.3\%\).  Improved functional fitness: Weight training can lead to improvements in hip function, lower body strength, and balance, which helps with day-to-day mobility and stability.  Reduced health risks: Research has shown that weight training is associated with a lower risk of all-cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality, particularly when combined with aerobic exercise.  Cognitive benefits: Strength training can boost brain health by stimulating the production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which helps with memory and learning. #research #weighttraining #weightloss #lifting #over40 #womenwholiftweights #stats #factsonfacts #motherhood #momlife #health #healthy #bonedensity #relatable
School uniform matters, but it shouldn’t break t School uniform matters, but it shouldn’t break the bank. No family should have to choose between putting food on the table and buying a new blazer.

Parents have told the Department for Education they want fewer costly branded items – and that’s exactly what we’re delivering with the aim of the branded three item limit coming into force in September 2026. Schools can help ease the pressure on families right now by reducing the number of branded items they require.

With no current limit on branded items, schools around the country can require multiple branded items from their students - with many asking for more than five, and in some cases 10 items - with the average total expenditure on school uniform and PE kit standing at nearly £400.

The new measures will allow parents more flexibility to choose where to buy the majority of school uniform items, allowing them to purchase items based on what best suits their child and their budgets.

This will save some parents over £50 per child on the back to school to shop, with total estimated savings for parents of £73 million per year (£21m for primary parents and £52m for secondary parents).

The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools bill will limit the number of branded uniform items schools can require to 3 (or 4 where secondary schools include a branded tie), likely driving down costs for an estimated 4.2 million children across the country.

Currently, just 57% of secondary schools report being fully compliant with the statutory uniform guidance, and 21% of secondary school parents said their school had increased the number of branded items in the past year.
