Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 14, 2012
Happy Valentine's Day all! ...Since a new man entered my life that cold January two years ago, my heart belongs to him. I still gave my husband Peter a pretty card I made, including the heartfelt words of, "You're the best husband in the world and would be nearly perfect if you managed to put your dirty socks in the wash basket" scribbled lovingly inside.

How to Be a Fun Mum in 5 Easy Steps…

January 30, 2012
Since becoming a Mama, a couple of my friends have mentioned in passing that they would love me to be their Mum because I’m so fun (how cool is that?)

The F Word…

January 17, 2012
So last week, my 2 year old son overheard a builder use the F word. I know, disgusting right. What's society coming to? Erm, that builder might just have been me.

The After Party…

January 16, 2012
Wait, this is the after party. Me slumping on the sofa, willing the toddler to nap so we can recover from the weekend's celebrations.

It’s Party Time

January 13, 2012
...It's party time. Well not until tomorrow but it's imminent. The '2 year old in a teenager's body' is having a party. We've selected the venue (his favourite softplay centre): small, easy to get to, fabulous toys including his favourite 'the oven', always pristine sans the ubiquitous childrens' dribble and I don't actually have to get into the ball pit as visibility from the seating area/magazine stand is peripheral.

Happy 2nd Birthday Oliver!

January 10, 2012
My baby toddler turns 2 today. TWO WHOLE YEARS! So much has happened since his dramatic entrance into the world. We've lived in 3 different cities, had time off, started work again, made films, changed jobs, friends, houses and all the while our lives have been irrevocably, indellibly transformed by one charismatic and delightful young man. It's amazing that such a small person can make such a HUGE impression.

Becoming Inspired…

January 3, 2012
I recently read a superb article in the Guardian on what inspires some of the greatest creatives out there. It got me thinking about what inspires me, whether it's writing a feature screenplay, animation script or this blog right here. Here are my tips to becoming inspired. Happy 2012!

One Pot of Hummus and a Guilty Mother

December 10, 2011
I have a confession to make. I'm Greek (well British Greek) and up until recently I'd never given my child hummus. I know, you better sit down and sip on some brandy. It's pretty shocking stuff.

Incredible illustrator, magazine founder and creator of Financially Hard Times and utterly all round wonderful young man, Tom Casson is kindly closing my Blogging Carnival with an illustration of my Dad: Papa G. The Circle of (Religious) Life…(HonestMum’s Blogging Carnival)

December 7, 2011
I was born and bred a Catholic. Growing up in West Ireland to an Irish Mother whose own family stemmed from a deeply religious background it was inevitable I would follow the same path. Admiration, of course, to my parents for continuing not only this upbringing when we moved to England, but in also making the effort (because as I have since found out it IS an effort) for my sisters and I, to be schooled in Catholic schools.

Toddlers, Teens and Tantrums: The Three Terrifying T’s

December 5, 2011
When Caleb was born, Sophie was 11 and babies were just about the best thing ever. Nothing she could do to help was never too much trouble. The age gap hadn't really crossed my mind when I fell pregnant and the fact I still had a child at junior school may have contributed to that. Initially all seemed fine..

These Days, I am Mostly Surrounded by Children…

December 1, 2011
I don’t know how it happened. Once, I was able to leave the house for a loaf of bread without having to give thirty minutes notice. I could even make it back again with time to spare before Eastenders started. These days, events like this take so much preparation and fore-warning that I would rather go without toast and opt for an easier life all round.

Did you know that research shows that children bor Did you know that research shows that children born to older mothers tend to show the most cognitive ability when in previous generations they typically showed less promise?
Older mothers of children (Elder Millenials and Millenials) are now more likely to be better educated and wealthier than the older Baby Boomers and Gen X mothers and these advantages have a positive effect on children’s cognitive development 🙌. Children born to older mothers tend to show the most cognitive ability nowadays, when in previous generations they typically showed less promise.
More details: mature mothers of children born at the turn of the new millennium are more likely to be better educated and wealthier than the older mothers of the Baby Boomers and Generation X before them. These advantages appear to have a positive effect on children’s cognitive development.
Researchers from the London School of Economics, Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research and University of Helsinki analysed information on more than 30,000 British people from three generations, born in 1958, 1970 and 2000-01. After grouping mothers by the ages at which they gave birth, the researchers analysed the results of cognitive assessments taken by their children when they were 10/11 years old. Children born in 2000-01 to mothers who gave birth in their late thirties scored the highest across all age groups in cognitive assessments. #research #facts #motherhood #pregnancy #viral facts facts on facts explore page relatable over 40 moms mom life parenting father study
I was honoured to interview the PM @keirstarmer la I was honoured to interview the PM @keirstarmer last October, followed by a meeting at @10downingstreet with his communications team (and special tour as a politics and history buff blew my mind), and today I had the chance to discuss the pressures the UK are facing in light of the war and hear how the government are tackling the cost of living crisis in light of the war in the Middle East. I praised Sir Keir Starmer’s stance on standing up to Trump; keeping the UK away from the conflict and priorotising harnessing natural sources of energy so we’re not embroiled in oil related issues in the future. Some of the measures since March: Increasing the National Living wage to £12.71 – a £900 boost for 2.4 million workers

- Increasing the National Minimum Wage to £10.85 – a £1,500 boost for over 200,000 young workers

- Cutting energy bills by an average £117 a year for millions across the UK – locked in until end of June

- The Crisis & Resilience Fund starts running – enabled by £1bn of funding – which helps vulnerable households with things like heating oil

- A freeze on prescription prices – so people aren’t spending more than a tenner on their medicines

This follows an update to the public on 16th March where the Prime Minister set out five steps that were already in place on the cost of living. These were:

1) Cutting the energy price cap until the end of June – thanks to last year’s Budget

2) The Chancellor’s decision to extend the cut in fuel duty until this September

3) £53 million for households that are most exposed to heating oil rises

4) Building Britain’s energy security and independence

5) Ongoing work towards a swift resolution of the situation in the Middle East

The cut to the energy price cap comes on top of the £150 Warm Home Discount that around 6 million families will have received this winter, following its expansion last year – and eligible billpayers will continue to receive this support every winter for the rest of the decade.
