New data from financial services company SunLife s New data from financial services company SunLife suggests 43% of UK grandparents look after their grandkids in the holidays and on school inset days, giving up around 18 hours a week.

With the average nanny costing just under £12 per hour, SunLife reveals UK grandparents are saving families £18bn in holiday costs every year, £7.7bn of which is saved during the summer break. Not everyone is as lucky as I am though. We need more robust infrastructure for working parents: flexible working as the norm where possible, more childcare providers, and at a lower cost for parents and for practitioners to be paid more. The juggle is hard-for grandparents as much as parents! How are you managing childcare? #childcare #juggle #working #flexibleworking #fyp

Only 3 per cent of those with polycystic ovary syn Only 3 per cent of those with polycystic ovary syndrome reach perimenopause by the age of 46, which may allow them to conceive when older. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) known now as Polycystic Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome is notorious for disrupting hormones and fertility, but it may have some surprising benefits after the age of 40. Ageing seems to naturally reshape the affected ovaries, often making periods more regular, delaying perimenopause and increasing fertility.

“Over the years, we’ve had so many women with PCOS telling us how they thought they would never be able to get pregnant without ART [assisted reproductive technology] and then they were so surprised because it happened in their 40s,” says Terhi Piltonen at Oulu University Hospital in Finland. “We call these children who they never thought they would have ‘evening stars’.”

Piltonen and her colleagues studied how PCOS influences the menopausal transition using data from 1849 women who were born in Finland in 1966 and had had regular health checks ever since as part of the Northern Finland Birth Cohort study.

Women are more likely to transmit intelligence genes to their children because they are carried on the X chromosome and women have two of these, while men only have one.

Despite taking into account several factors, from the participants education to their socio-economic status and beyond, the team still found the best predictor of intelligence was the IQ of the mother. #study #research #dad #iq #intelligence

I attended a farewell leaving party for the Prime I attended a farewell leaving party for the Prime Minister @keirstarmer , on Tuesday the 14th of July, in the gardens of @10downingstreet . It was a privilege to firstly be invited (after an on-going collaboration since last October highlighting the government’s policies helping lift children out of poverty) and secondly, to be present to listen to speeches from those Starmer has helped and supported, firstly in his role as an MP for Holborn and St Pancras and prior to his entry into politics, as Director of Public Prosecutions.
A few things of many he’s achieved in 2 years:
The social media ban for under-16s, workers and renters’ rights, upgrading sick pay and parental leave and ending no-fault evictions and fixed term tenancies in England.
He also raised the National Living Wage to £12.71 and settled multiple public sector strikes early in his premiership. He established Great British Energy, launched landmark overhauls of the SEND education system, and scrapped single-headline Ofsted grades in schools.
The NHS waiting list is down by 400,000 with ambulance response times quicker and 200 more GPs in the sector.
There are also 5 million extra NHS appointments, and 4500 more secondary, FE and special school teachers in schools. Knife crime down by 10%. 500,000 more children are eligible for free school meals and 500 more free breakfast clubs open, a subject I interviewed the PM about.
..It was a joy to finally meet @deborahmeaden who has championed my work since I first interviewed her for this blog in 2018. We both said we felt we already knew one another and couldn’t believe this was the first time we were meeting in person. I really value our dms on Instagram and the support and advice Deborah has given me. Super to meet @phunphonics_and_magicmaths and her 5 week old!
I also discussed football with superstar @officialdavidseaman (I used to work for Talk Sport and am slightly football-obsessed) who shared that he still supports Leeds United as he started his career there. What a champ! He predicted England would beat Argentina but it wasn’t to be.
What a memorable day and memorable premiership.

Ad. I’ve frustratingly suffered with gut health is Ad. I’ve frustratingly suffered with gut health issues for what feels like years, whether post-antibiotics or food poisoning and often feeling triggered by even healthy foods. The anxiety that comes with not knowing what will trigger your IBS symptoms can be awful.

However, the past 3 months have shown a huge difference in my health thanks to Sonomono Natto capsules by @livingalphalife so I wanted to share the benefits with you all.

But first, I want to tell you what’s in these capsules:

Sonomono® Natto Powder Capsules contain freeze-dried natto (traditional Japanese fermented soybeans, an ancient Japanese superfood) made from non-GMO Japanese soybeans along with a spore-forming probiotic which survives stomach acid where other conventional probiotics often do not.
There are so many benefits.

They help with
• Gut health-Supports digestion
• Maintaining microbiome balance
• Providing natural probiotics
• Promoting digestive regularity and comfort
• The heart health-Natural nattokinase enzyme, produced during natto fermentation in it, is commonly associated with cardiovascular support.
• They also support bone health as they contain calcium.
• They have naturally occurring Vitamin K2
• And since it’s a vegetable capsule it’s vegan-friendly to boot.
• No strong odour
• No strong flavour
• Easy daily capsule format
• Faster and more convenient than preparing natto foods

I feel and even look better (hello glowing skin and long hair) as the gut affects your whole body including your mind and haven’t suffered digestive issues in as long as I can remember thanks to them!
