A weekend away as a mum of three, close to home, is my kind of holiday.
No hassle, a short drive away (just over an hour), in luxurious surroundings (with a working, state-of-the-art kitchen, no less), enveloped in countryside as far as the eye can see, High Oaks Grange really is a dream come true.
Boasting the most comfortable beds imaginable, an outside hot tub (with switchable night lights, to boot), an adjacent farm shop and cafe plus pumpkin patch, and lots to do on the doorstep, this was one memorable weekend, that’s for sure.
Situated in the North York Moors National Park in Pickering (encompassing luxe cottages, lodges and pods), High Oaks Grange ticks every box when it comes to a perfect weekend away with all of the family. And when I say, ‘all of the family’, I mean ALL as my folks came along for the ride (and a little dip in the hot tub) and even ended up staying an extra night as my husband, Peter, and I, had to head home for school runs and work on the Monday and they didn’t! Lucky ducks or what?!
Come let me show you around….It’s breathtaking.
Family breaks like this are definitely a perk of blogging we’re truly grateful for.
The chic, premium Scandinavian-style Sycamore Lodge with its cosy surroundings became our beautiful home for a long weekend away (Friday to Monday) and provided us all with some serious rest and relaxation, something not always easy to find when holidaying with an active, sleep-averse toddler.
Yet, relax we did, thanks to an on-site playground in the woodlands next to our lodge all of the kids loved, Peppa Pig on Netflix, a PlayStation for the boys (both in the lodge), aforementioned heaven-sent beds, an al fresco hot tub I desperately want in the garden of our new house (we could adjust the temperature of) Florence squealed with delight in; a free standing bath (our fave), grandparents on hand to help and all of the home comforts (and more) available which made cooking and snack-dispensing, as well as bathing (hello fluffy dressing gowns, and comfy slippers) completely effortless.
Perfection.
…We also enjoyed the most epic Sunday lunch literally next door to our lodge, at Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Cafe which offers an extensive seasonal menu of delicious, locally-sourced dishes from roasts to veggie medleys (exquisitely cooked and presented), and a farm-themed playground and pumpkin patch plus sweet miniature railway which takes you and the kids on a ride aboard their 600 metre train track. Fun!
After a long lunch, it was time to rest (again) back at the lodge which sleeps 6 and came with a travel cot for Florence.
It was absolutely spotless, so much so it looked like it had never been used.
Becky and Nick, the fab owners who are also parents of two (who we got to hang out with on one of the mornings) have put their heart and soul into the business, including everything you could possibly want or need from a family stay there from extra towels and toiletries to a hamper of goodies on arrival, plus fridge essentials as well as recycling bags, tonnes of storage space, a bbq, pots, pans, cutlery and crockery and more, meaning you can simply turn up without needing to bring everything but the kitchen sink with you.
Florence’s favourite part of the break had to be the on-site playground next to Sycamore Lodge where she spent most of the weekend playing with her brothers, lapping up the sunshine we were showered with, and kicking the ball around.
Surrounded by 60 breathtaking acres within the High Oaks Grange estate, with only the sound of the birds tweeting against clear blue autumnal skies and rolling hills (you can discover during your stay) made us feel as if we were in our very own live action Disney movie, with sheep and deer to keep us company too.
Soul food for sure.
You cannot help but switch off at High Oaks Grange.
We adored our stay and look forward to returning.

Good luck x
This was a complimentary stay but as always, my words are honest.
