Rose Chamberlain

Rose Chamberlain is a Naturopath Nutritional Therapist, Health Educator and mum of two. She is originally from Brazil but lives in the UK. Rose is fascinated with the human body and how it functions and she believes in the potential we all have to fully overhaul our lives, health and the lives of those around us. Over the years, Rose has transformed her life and has also witnessed incredible transformations in the lives of her clients.

Rose says, ‘The search for a completely healthy life is a journey we make day-by-day, step-by-step. It is a regime I practice daily and through my work, I empower and support my clients to embrace their quest for a holistically healthy life’.

I’ve known Rose for years as she founded a film magazine I used to edit.

It’s a pleasure to interview her, here.

Describe a typical day for you?

One week a month I work as a Naturopath Nutritional Therapist at a retreat in Somerset. When I’m there, I normally wake up around 7.30 am before meditating and writing.  I start work at 9am and finish at 7pm and spend the day looking after the well-being of my clients.

When I’m at home though, my routine is completely different.

I get up at 6.30am to get my kids ready for school. If I don’t have a client booked in that morning, I try and spend an hour or two in the gym, returning home to eat lunch and work on my on-going projects. It’s then school-run time and I also collect my husband from the train station. I hope this year will see a more structured routine for me as I plan to arrange childcare after school for my kids so I can concentrate on new projects.

What do you feel are your biggest achievements?

The life I have built in the UK. I was born in Brazil and moved to UK in December 2001 with just two pieces of luggage and a hand bag. My entire life was over there so I started anew here. I came over to improve my English, to try and specialise in TV Documentary ( I was a Documentary Filmmaker before I decided to become a Nutritional Therapist) and importantly, to meet up with an English guy I’d met during a film festival in Brazil who’d I’d completely fallen in love with but hadn’t yet kissed! What followed was wonderful: I received a place to study an MA in Documentary at Goldsmiths, University of London and I ended up marrying my gorgeous English guy. We went on to have two beautiful children together and we have spent the last 16 years building and developing our lives together.

What’s in your handbag/ satchel?

A little pot of Himalayan Salt, sounds crazy but it is true. An umbrella, as you can never trust the British weather. A lifelong bag, the ones you can fold into a tiny ball and a wallet, pen, pencils and lip gloss.

What are your ambitions in life?

To inspire and help people to understand and love their bodies.

What do you wish you’d known at the start of your career you now know?

The best job is not necessarily the one which pays the biggest cheque but it’s certainly the one which fulfils the heart.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Producing exciting educational content combining nutrition, biology, biochemistry, fiction and fantasy. To write books, create board games, video games, VR and any other material which could be used to educate and inspire kids and young adults about the wonders of our bodies.

What advice would you give a budding nutritionist?

Nutrition is an evolving field. It’s a complex subject. We have a great responsibility at this moment in history, when the world is facing an obesity and diabetes type 2 pandemic, to help people improve their health.

There is not a one size fits all formula.

It is a personalised business. Diet alone will never fix anyone.

We are composed of several intertwined systems. I believe health and well-being can only be achieved when we integrate the body, mind and soul and focus on food, rest/stress management and movement. We can only feel wholeheartedly healthy once we merge all the different elements which makes us whole. That is why I’ve created the Wholeheartedly Healthy programme where I support my clients on their journey for a balanced mind, body and soul.

What do you wish you’d known about motherhood before having kids?

It’s the biggest challenge I have ever faced. Once you have kids, you’re never the same. My children challenge me every day. They inspire me as much as they drive me to the edge of insanity but they also show me the purest love I’ve ever known.

Finally, happiness is…

In 2017 I wrote a book called My Little Book of Gratitude. It was the result of a 30 day challenge I imposed on myself to reflect on gratitude over a month. It is an exercise which now I propose to my clients and I will be doing again in the next Wholeheartedly Healthy Group I’m starting on the 15th of January. One of the themes I always reflect on during the 30 days of exercise is happiness. Below is a quote from My Little Book of Gratitude.

‘Day 4

Happiness

Happiness is the little moments of connection I have with the people I love most. A giggle with my kids, seeing my little girl’s enthusiasm when I arrive home after a week away at work. My husband’s delicious pancakes on a sunny Sunday morning. My mother’s voice on the telephone. A laugh with my mates. A kiss from my man. A shared moment of generosity. Happiness is a collection of these moments. Seconds of alignment with the divine. I am ever so grateful for all the moments I have ever been gifted’.

I so enjoyed reading this. Firstly I felt Rose’s warmth through her words – I’m guessing she is a very warm person. I love that she wants to help and educate people about the importance of mind, body and soul – I totally subscribe to this philosophy of taking care of all three. And how romantic is her story about following her love to the UK and marrying him. Loved this xx
