Wonderful Women Interview with TV Presenter Laura Hamilton

TV Presenter Laura Hamilton

Laura Hamilton is best known for her presenting skills on A Place In The Sun, but she is also mother of two young children. During her last pregnancy Laura put on 4 stone but with the help of celebrity fitness guru John Beeby she lost her baby weight and has launched fitness app ‘Laura Hamilton’s Full Body Workout’.

Here I interview this inspiring mama-

Describe a typical day for you?

There is never one day that’s the same.  I don’t see that it’s possible when you have children! They are so unpredictable – add to that the fact I am a busy working mum, it’s a big juggle.  I absolutely love that, though.  I guess I’m up at around 6.30am no matter what and whatever I do during the day (working on not), I’m always there to bath the children and read them a story for bedtime.  With a previous life as a children’s TV Presenter I love putting on silly voices for the characters when I read the stories!  If I’m not filming and I’m spending time with the children, I’ve managed to get them to both have a nap during the day at the same time.  When they are sleeping I’ll be doing the chores around the house or exercising!

What do you feel are your biggest achievements?

I am most definitely a workaholic – I adore my job and I feel lucky to have been taught to ice skate by the legendary Torvill and Dean.  I also learnt to ski jump on Channel 4’s show The Jump too.  Both of the reality TV shows I have been part of were both full on and put my body through gruelling challenges.  I love keeping fit and active which is one of the reasons for producing my fitness app.   I’m lucky that when I’m filming A Place in the Sun I get to travel the world with my children.  Aside of all my work things they have to be my biggest achievement yet.

What’s in your handbag?

Plenty of wet wipes – wish I had shares in them.  Three passports, suncream, a few nappies, a change of pants, a sticky sweet,  my phone, my purse and my shades.  My phone is literally my office.  I would be lost without it.

What are your ambitions in life?

To make my children proud and teach them that they can achieve anything they want in life if they put their minds to it.  I am very ambitious when it comes to my career but I’m now responsible for two little people and I want to do the best by them.  I want to always try and be in good shape, fit and healthy for them as well as myself.

What advice do you know now, you wish you had pre-kids?

Before having children I questioned how would I know what to do in certain situations and I asked everyone for advice.  I think you should follow your gut because when you have children you just seem to know what to do for your children – mothers instinct!  Pre-kids I also wish someone had advised me that between the two children to try and get a bit more in shape because it would have been easier to get in shape after having the second.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Hopefully with two children who are well mannered and on a good path.  I want to be healthy, happy and hopefully presenting a prime time show.  I’d like to be able to maintain my weight, body shape and fitness levels and perhaps develop a further app based on nutrition.  I’m pretty ambitious to be honest and I have lots of ideas about developing my own brand.

What advice would you give a budding presenter ?

There really is no wrong or right way into the industry.  Learn about what everyone does and remember it’s all about being a team player – you are just a cog in the wheel and everyone has to work together for it to be a success.  Presenting is all about being yourself.  It’s important to listen to what people have to say and engage with them.

Finally, happiness is…

Enjoy every moment whilst you can.  Life is short and it’s important to live life to the full.  Happiness for me is when I’m with my husband and children and I feel great.
