What To Look for in Accommodation in Keswick
The Lake District is the perfect destination for a family getaway. Whether you visit for a long weekend or an entire week, there’s plenty to keep you busy and the views are breathtaking.
There are tonnes of towns and villages where you could stay and for those coming from the south, Windemere, Ambleside and even Grasmere are popular hot-spots. However, if you journey a little further north, you’ll find my personal favourite, the gem that is Keswick. This beautiful market town nestled under Skiddaw and right next to Derwentwater has some brilliant accommodation options with something to suit everyone.
Let’s take a look at some of the things that you should be looking for when it comes to choosing accommodation in Keswick.
Location
If you want somewhere that’s easy to explore from and is surrounded by plenty of local amenities, then a location in the centre of a town makes sense. If you’ve travelled by car this will allow you to get around without actually having to drive all the time, which offers a welcome change of pace. Central Keswick is generally your best bet, with the town offering indie and high street shops, restaurants, cafes and more. Similarly, from the centre, you can reach the stunning Derwentwater Lake in just 10 minutes of leisurely walking.
Do, however, check if you’re travelling by car, that the location you’re looking at has plenty of parking, whether this is at your chosen accommodation option or nearby. The last thing you want is the added stress of struggling to find somewhere to park.
Views
We head to Keswick for the incredible views and you’ll want to lap those up from your new holiday abode ideally. There really is something special about waking to stunning views from your window sill. Book wisely!
Comfort
The key to getting a good night’s sleep is a relaxing room and a comfortable bed, and there’s nothing better than crisp sheets and a big, inviting bed. Throw in fluffy robes, free superfast Wi-Fi and you and the kids will certainly be happy! Blackout blinds offer added bliss!
Above all a great room should also feel thoroughly modern and have a few clever touches that help it feel like a really unique space. Dimmable lights, a pretty and functional en-suite and a widescreen TV please!
Dog friendly
If you like to holiday with your furry friend, then you’ll need to look for accommodation options that are pet-friendly. The Lake District is incredibly popular with walkers, and that often means they like to bring their dog along as well. If this is you, make sure that any accommodation you’re looking at can cater to your four-legged friend. You’ll also need to check any restrictions they might have. Many bookings are limited to 2 dogs per room.
Most of all, choose somewhere that suits you and your tastes, from hilly terrain to hike across to tranquil hotels with spas. Put the research in so you can fully relax on your holiday!
