A toasted cheese sandwich is my eldest’s all-time cheerer-upper. You can’t fail with a cheese sarnie. Use gluten-free bread if you prefer.
Ingredients:
- White or brown bread
- Unsalted butter
- Cheddar Cheese
Method:
Butter each slice of bread, we love using white here and for a family who rarely eat white bread, that is really saying something. Nothing tastes as good in my opinion when it comes to a toastie. It reminds me of my toastie-scoffing days in Sixth Form and the combo of melted cheese in soft white is something else! Trust me!
Don’t be misled by the name of this either as this bad boy is going straight into a frying pan. Lightly butter each side then add cheese that melts easily like cheddar. I like to grate it then press to create a sandwich (you know how to make one!). Then add to a frying pan and wait while the bread browns and the cheese melts.

Easy peasy.
Oliver likes his with ketchup.
