Bruern Cottages

A stay at the luxurious self-catering Bruern Cottages is always complete and utter bliss.

Beautiful, Secluded, luxurious yet homely, with every facility you could possibly want or need, this is a haven for couples and families alike.

The grounds span a glorious garden you can play football in (with goal posts no less), two picturesque traditional, playgrounds with a playhouse too, a heated indoor pool that’s as warm as can be, a well-equipped gym, games room, and not forgetting of course the Pinterest-worthy luxe cottages you get to call home during your stay, furnished with lavish sofas, chaise longues, log-burning fires, fitted kitchens bursting with complimentary local tasty treats and en suites stocked with Elemis toiletries to boot.

Bruern is an unforgettable experience for all of the family and it’s hands-down our favourite place to stay in the UK countryside.

Bruern Cottages

Located in the Cotswolds, a mere 90 minute drive from our home in Windsor, we loved our first trip there, enjoying a tranquil stay in the summer and couldn’t wait to return to ring in the new year and mark the first day of 2019, there.

We spent three wonderful days in this dreamy spot, oscillating between our 2 bedroom cottage and the swimming pool, playgrounds and games room, all a stone’s throw away from our base, only leaving Bruern once for a quick supermarket-run nearby.

As you can see, the views are picture-postcard pretty from Bruern, and the collection of cottages are the height of luxury without ever feeling stuffy. Style-wise the decor reminds me of my parents’ home in Yorkshire with heavy curtains and Victoriana nods throughout…. An oak bookcase heaves with bestsellers in the lounge; board games sit underneath for all the family to enjoy, and pretty floral illustrations hang in frames side by side with ornamental plates upon the walls. The pièce de résistance is of course, the four poster bed in the master bedroom, you’ll slip and sink into, not ever wanting to leave from!

Those lucky little children of mine had recently returned from Prague where they swam daily before our jaunt at Bruern so have become confident and quick swimmers during the winter holidays, a huge improvement for Alexander in particular who felt a little fearful of the water at the start of the break, after a gap in swimming lessons due to ear issues. It was a real joy to see them both splashing around.

After endlessly scoffing in Prague, I returned to healthy eating and exercise the minute we arrived in Bruern so fittingly lapped up swimming lengths in the pool as well as playing Marco Polo with the boys and Peter, transporting me right back to my childhood and parents’ pool in my childhood home in Ilkley (I realise how lucky I was, growing up with a pool).

Rudds Wellies firmly on (the best wellies ever, warm with an amazing grip) gifted to me a year ago and now the only brand I wear, we played football together in between swims, and took a short walk through the wonderful, winding gardens to the Games Room to enjoy movies and play on the XBox and PlayStation. We also got to compete on the foosball and table tennis tables (the boys are excellent at tennis so adored their first go at table tennis) and we spent the whole time laughing. There was zero stress, everyone was occupied and content and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

Once the kids slept on New Year’s Eve (look at Oliver’s cute bed, below), Peter and I took our spot in front of the open fire and scoffed vegan pizzas to the chimes of Big Ben on the box, clinking glasses at midnight before actually making it to bed and not falling asleep on Bruern’s snug sofas. A Christmas miracle!

Refreshed, I dressed up on New Year’s Day because why not?! wearing this stunning gifted Roman Originals LBD (I adore the bow detail) pairing it with sparkly and extremely comfy heels c/o Lotus Shoes.

What a poser (Spanx firmly on btw)!
