Hillier Nursery and Garden Centre Syon Park in Brentford is a beautiful botanical oasis of tranquiliy, hidden deep within the heart of West London (which will make you question if you’re even in London thanks to its serenity) and a day in its acres will provide you with a pleasurable chance to pause, observe, play, relax and feel revived and alive again. No exaggeration.
Hillier Syon Park only opened its doors in Spring 2021, following its other eponymous nurseries across the South of England delighting green-fingered visitors with its vast mix of unusual and much-loved plants, trees and flowers, as well as quality homeware, garden furniture and thoughtful gifts. I bought beautiful sweet peas, flower food, chocolates and a sweet soft bird toy for Florence from their sprawling deli and gift shop.
There are also two delicious eateries on site: The Courtyard Restaurant for seasonal feasting and The Clocktower Cafe for quick bites (we were lucky enough to be invited to dine at both during our visit), and premium butchers Wyndham House based at their deli for all your fine meat, poulty and game needs. They generously sent us home with a cooler bag full of marinated chicken, speciality sausages and stir-fries.
…You can also join the Hillier Gardening Club to benefit from exclusive offers at Hillier’s, competitions, events and workshops. You will also receive ‘The Gardener’s Journal’ for free when you do along with regular email newsletters packed full of Hillier horticultural expertise.
Speaking of which, Hillier experts, the warm and welcoming duo Rob and Matt were on hand to give us an extensive tour of the nursery and grounds on our day trip whilst generously sharing their passion for all things flora including invaluable advice on what would work best for our own home and garden in Windsor.
The cheerful chaps also joined us for a tasty al fresco lunch at The Courtyard Restaurant overlooking Syon House’s majestic Great Conservatory, where the first ball of the season takes place in Bridgerton Season 2, no less.
After our epic feast spanning tuna salad, tomato and basil soup, fish and chips, blue cheese and bacon panini and pasta, we wandered over to Syon Gardens, whiling away hours strolling through its charming grounds.
Syon House, (one of the last great houses of London) was closed on that particular day so we’ll plan a return visit for a tour inside, soon.
Florence wears adorable outfit by Baere Accessories. The leggings were kindly gifted.
Look how postcard pretty Syon Gardens are? With play areas, wildlife, acres of tree and blossom-lined vistas as far as the eye can see, my husband Peter took these dreamy photos here.
Visiting Hillier Nursery was such a treat and truly made for one of our most favourite days out in London.
Whether you’re a tourist in the capital or live down the road from Hillier, you must make time for a visit. Glorious!
This was a gifted experience but all words are honest.
