We spend so much time at Valley Gardens in Harrogate, I feel like we live there! It really has become our second home, especially since we’ve experienced heatwave after heatwave this summer and have retreated there whenever the sun has popped its hat on!

With a shallow but vast paddling pool in the playground area, Florence loves to play and splash in there for hours.
Opened in 1887 in celebration of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, boasting 17 acres of English Heritage Grade II listed park-land, themed gardens spanning the New Zealand Garden, The Japanese Garden, Scree Garden, Peat Garden, Rock Garden and Sensory Garden as well as floral displays and historic buildings, Valley Gardens really is a favourite amongst locals and tourists alike.

With tennis courts and mini golf faciliaties, cafes on site and ample chance to enjoy an ice cream in the grounds, as well as a huge playground suitable for all ages from babies to tweens, there is nowhere my youngest child, Florence, 4, loves to spend time in more, in the town we now call home!

Perfect all year round, it’s the perfect picnic spot when the weather plays ball and perfect for a winter stroll too. Florence has even attended parties there this summer hosted by school friends!

Still not sure? You must go see the giant leafed plants which live in the park titled Gunnera, or giant rhubarb or Brazilian giant-rhubarb! These striking, prehistoric-looking plants feature umbrella-sized green leaves that can span over two metres across and provide a dramatic, tropical feel to the historic 17-acre park. Prepare to be wowed!
