My child’s Pre-School has two weeks off for October half term but instead of flying to South Africa ourselves to visit my husband’s parents, we flew them over to Leeds so they could meet baby Alexander for the first time and have a holiday overseas themselves! It’s been wonderful seeing them again and they’ve fallen head over heels with Baby A and relished in seeing their first grandchild Oliver again.
We are just back from a week away on the Yorkshire Coast in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Robin Hood’s Bay where we’ve hired a house by the sea before heading to luxury log cabins at Ravens Hall Hotel. It really is this family’s happy place in Yorkshire and the boys loved nothing more than walking along the beach, fishing net in one hand, a creamy Yorkshire ice cream in the other, taking in the sea air, listening to the waves. It was lush!
Other staycation destinations we like include wonderful Wales where we spend our days visiting castles, scoffing fudge and escaping to forests with the family or city breaks in our former hometown of London filled with fun times with great friends, many museum visits (Science Museum is a favourite) and of course toy shopping with the kids (hello Hamleys!)
Short flights (always useful with kids) to foreign climes include the South of France (usually Nice and Cannes), Paris (J’etaime), Portugal (where we spent our last summer holiday) and Cyprus where my parents are originally from and a favourite as it’s still warm enough to swim in the sea in October. You could even look at some luxury cruise deals. There’s always great savings to be had even at the last minute, so you can sail the seas at a budget. Lush!
Will you go away?
