Florence, 4, is the smartest, most hilarious little girl I’ve ever come across (biased, much?) and I’m so glad I have this platform so I won’t forget the laugh out loud things she tells me on the daily. I can’t remember them all but yesterday was one joke after another and some ‘poetry’ for good measure, so here we go!
“Why don’t you like Uncle Solos” (she sometimes cries when she sees my lovely, kind, younger brother but she’s like this with most boys and men at the moment which I think is due to my middle son, Alexander winding her up a lot).
“I just don’t like boys” she said.
“Aww, Uncle Solos loves you and he buys you lots of presents”.
“Well, I don’t like him but I like his presents” hahaha!
She asked me the following, yesterday,
“When are you going to give me ALL of your jewellery then? The gold, the silver and all the sparkly stuff”.
“One day you’ll have everything don’t worry”.
“I want them now though” …And she’s currently wearing my gold and pearl layered necklaces as I type!
Walking through Valley Gardens, a breathtakingly beautiful park in Harrogate she observed the cherry blossom petals floating in the air and said, “It’s raining blossom”. How poetic!
Putting her to bed last night, I mentioned we could look at some of her baby videos tomorrow (something we often do together).
“Why don’t you ask the doctor to put me back into your tummy”
“Oh but you would be bored in there”
“Ask him to put some of my toys in there too, then”.
Aww!
This girl!!! What I love most about having a young child again is seeing the world through her eyes. The wonder at the blossoming trees, daffodils and tulips growing in our garden, the way she loves to choose strawberries at the farm shop, the way we draw together or dress her barbies, all this quality time is precious and oh so fleeting.
Septemeber will see her start school (she’s currently at pre school) and life will go by as quickly as it did with my wonderful boys (my eldest is taking his GCSEs this year). I’m not ready for any of these milestones to be hoenst but one thing I know with having children is that these new chapters happen, and they never end, ready or not!
