Wonderful Women Interview with Sunday Times Bestselling Author Giovanna Fletcher

Giovanna Fletcher is a Sunday Times bestselling author, vlogger, wife to Tom Fletcher and mum to two boys Buzz and Buddy. With millions of fans, worldwide, this straight-talking, creative and honest mama (we love those, obvs) is in the hot seat today, for Wonderful Women. It’s a pleasure to share her thoughts on work and motherhood, right here. 

1. Describe a typical day for you?

Being woken up at an unsightly hour after a night of being tag teamed by the boys, have breakfast all together and then either start a day of fun with the boys or work from 9. If it’s a working day I’ll plough on until 3ish. Then the boys will be home causing mayhem while I cook dinner. Then it’s bath and bed for them before I sit at my computer and start writing for the rest of the evening. Occasionally Tom and I will stop at 10 and have some time together instead. That’s always lovely.

 

2. What do you feel are your biggest achievements?

My children are definitely my greatest achievements. They astound me every day. I can’t believe I grew them!

 

3. What’s in your handbag/ satchel?

It’s basically turned into a changing bag. Nappies, wipes, spare pants, spare clothes, hats, scarves, gloves – and lots of snacks. A quick rice cake can stop any meltdown from occurring…. well. Usually!

 

4. What are your ambitions in life?

I have lots. In terms of the boys, I just want them to be happy and content.

 

5. What do you wish you’d known at the start of your career you now know?

That everyone has moments of self doubt while writing. When I first started feeling that way I thought it was just me and that my publishers were going to hate what I’d written. It’s all part of the process though.

 

6. What advice do you know now, you wish you had pre-kids?

That no one else knows my children like I do, even though some people will tell you how you should be raising them. Also, everyone is winging it. Even the ones you think have everything together.

 

7. Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Doing more of the same. That being said, this time 5 years ago I wasn’t married. A lot can change in that time!

 

8. What advice would you give a budding author?

Get writing! Unless you actually sit down and get on with it nothing can happen!

 

9. Finally, happiness is…

Being with Tom and the boys on a nice sunny day… possibly while munching on a 99flake!
