When You’re Sick of Everyone Being Sick

When You’re Sick of Everyone Being Sick

With three kids, two at school, one at nursery, bugs circulate in our house like nobody’s business, and honestly, I’m sick of everyone being sick, myself included.

The winters feel long in the UK and we’ve just come to the end of a week of snowfall here in Harrogate, Yorkshire, which was novel and fun on the first day as we frolicked around in the fluffy stuff and built snowmen, but it has now turned to dangerous ice even my trusty wellies are struggling with.

Everyone I’ve spoken to lately seems to be suffering with either a cold, flu or tummy bug and whilst schools are enforcing stricter attendance rules, and rightly so, as they need attendance rates to raise to ensure kids are educated, even they state if it’s worse than a cold, for e.g a fever, children should not go in. My middle child had a fever in the night and my youngest is under the weather too so they’re both at home today, we’re all sleep deprived, moody (mostly me) and frustrated as I’m currently working my way through an urgent deadline whilst being a 24/7 snack and Calpol dispenser. Fun times!

Juggling being the family nurse with pressing work-and being January, the pressure is on to take on as many commissions as possible post-Christmas-is not for the faint of heart! The timing is not ideal but that’s life or should I say mom life!

I’m just hoping I’m not hit with this bug although I’ve probably already caught it, or at least I’d like to be the last to go down as being the default parent with the flexible job, means I’m chief co-ordinator of my children’s lives! We moms really are amazing huh!

So far I’ve been able to stick to the healthy diet and exercise regime I started back in November, but after a few nights of broken sleep, I think I might need to deviate from it today. Everything in moderation, right, even if that means eating cake and custard moderately? Returning to beloved childhood puddings are so nostalgically comforting in my book. I’ll add some chopped fruit on top for balance!

Argh!

Every winter, I promise myself I’m going to book a holiday over the Christmas break-or move abroad-ha-but somehow we always become swept up with the idea of the festivities at home, and a warm Christmas which we’ve experienced before, seems odd to us!

I am, admittedly desperate for a holiday. We booked a weekend away this Saturday before illness struck, not far from our home, with a swimming pool, I’m just hoping everyone’s well enough by then as boy do we need a break!

I hope if you’re feeling under the weather too, or your kids are, you know that you’re not alone feeling tired and fed-up. Please try rest when you can so you can restore your energy, which I know is easier said than done!
