Calling all gin fans!! (surely that’s everyone right?!)
It’s competition time and I’ve teamed up with marvellous Portobello Road Gin to win a bottle of their Director’s Cut No.02: The Smoky Gin.
This limited edition gin (only 1000 were made!) has a beautiful smoky flavour that lends itself incredibly well to warming winter cocktails (check out the recipe for their Pudding Lane Gin Twist at the end of this post) and food dishes – making it the perfect tipple for the festive season!
To achieve it’s rich smoky flavour, the limited-edition craft gin is flavoured with juniper berries that were hand-smoked in peat dug by Portobello Road Gin founder Ged Feltham at his ancestral home of County Kerry, Ireland. These were then blended with a total of eleven botanicals that include chipotle and Chinese Lapsang Souchong black tea – giving the gin a wonderful taste of smoke and fire!
It’s the perfect xmas present for any gin-loving mamas! Take note husbands! 😉
The Director’s Cut limited-edition blend marks the 5th anniversary of Portobello Road Gin and the launch of their exciting new venue, The Distillery – a 4 floor mecca for discerning drinkers where guests can literally eat, drink and sleep all things gin!
Located on the iconic Portobello Road, The Distillery has 3 boutique guests rooms, 2 bars, a gin museum and is the new home of the renowned Ginstitute – where you can make your own gin! London folk – don’t miss out on their soft launch (16 – 31 Dec) where you can enjoy 50% off food!
Cheers to that!
Pudding Lane Gin Twist
The Gin Twist was the drink of choice for the gin-loving Londoner for many decades since at least as early as the 1800’s and was so well known that it is a fixture in the novels, plays and poetry of that era. Some have even postulated that it was the Gin Twist which gave Oliver Twist the second half of his name – certainly Charles Dickens was aware of the drink and mentions it in several of his books.
The drink was traditionally served hot but as the taste for hot gin has waned somewhat in the modern era we have contemporised this drink by serving it over ice and adding a dash of Pedro Ximenez Sherry which gives it a delightful dried fruit dimension.
