There’s something to love about all of the seasons of the year, but spring is definitely the most motivating for me. After a long, dark winter, it’s always reassuringly uplifting when the longer, warmer days return and my garden is bursting with crocus, daffodils and hyacinth.
Spring will be here sooner than you realise, and when it does come, you’ll want to take advantage of it as much as possible. That’s the plus side to winter, it provides you with deep gratitude when the longer daylight hours kick in. One thing I do more than just in the spring, is a spring clean so I wanted to run through some tips here to help you get your house ready, so you can live the season to the fullest. Sofia Martinez, owner of the cleaning company Sparkly Maid Austin, recommends starting your spring cleaning early to avoid feeling overwhelmed when the beautiful weather arrives.
Spring Cleaning
You’ll have kept up with the surface-level cleaning during the winter months, but that’ll be about it. It’s dark and cold so we rarely, if ever, have the doors and windows open, which can result in the home beginning to feel a little stale.
In the weeks before the arrival of spring, look at setting aside a day to give your home a deep, deep clean. That means getting behind, within and under the sofa and those other hard-to-reach spots, cleaning as well as opening up the windows, and putting everything through the wash or dry cleaning tablecloths and curtains etc for example. A thorough clean will help you start spring with a clean slate.
Let the Light Pour In
During the winter months, we tend to embrace a darker aesthetic. The curtains are closed, and the lights are low. When spring arrives, the opposite is true — we want things to be as light and bright as possible. There’s nothing better than having sunshine streaming into your home in the morning, but that will only be possible if your home is set up to receive light and your windows are tip top. The best window replacement company can install crystal-clear windows that’ll let plenty of light pass through and into your home. And on those extra warm days? Open the doors and windows up, and let that beautiful spring air stream in.
Invest in Outdoor Furniture
Is there anything sweeter than waking up and sensing that, yes, finally, the warm weather is back? When those moments arrive, you’ll want to take yourself outside — after all, you’re likely to have been stuck inside your house for months on end, desperate for some sun. By investing in some sturdy outdoor furniture, and a trampoline for the kids, you can embrace all the small pleasures that the season brings.
Switch Out To Spring Fabrics
Finally, look at switching our fabrics to be more ‘spring-friendly’ for instance, changing your bedsheets to a lighter, spring colour such as yellow? Remove heavier blankets and other items you used during winter, and replace them with light linens and a lower tog duvet. Round it all off with fresh flowers, and you’ll have the perfect spring experience at home.
It’s been cold for a long time, but spring really is coming — now take note of my tips so you can welcome it with open arms.
