The World’s First Real Children’s Watch by About Vintage
My family and I are excited to be collaborating with Danish luxury watch brand About Vintage (and we’re now proud recipients of their premium steel watches too).
This timepieces brand (available worldwide) offer chic, exquisitely designed and crafted watches for all, including importantly children with a world first with their real watches for kids in a rally against plastic, throwaway watches that have become the norm for youngsters.
About Vintage believe children deserve a watch they can keep forever they can gift from generation to generation.
Designed by parents, these are vibrant and stylish yet functional and robust watches which fit children’s active lifestyles.
Creative Director, Andreas Herring explains his inspiration behind the watches, ‘When my kids started in school, I wanted to give them a watch that marked their first big leap towards becoming independent individuals, as well as one that they could actually wear, without having to worry about it, but a such thing didn’t exist anywhere’. So he made one himself.
A 4 watch collection each in their own bold and beautiful colorway, complete with easy-to-wear velcro strap, scratch resistant sapphire crystal and a depth rating of 100m, meaning this watch can be worn in the pool, in the shower and at high intensity water fights alike.
My boys love the watches and have worn them every day since they were sent and look so mature with their watches on, especially when they’re in school uniform.
Learning to tell time, on a real watch is an important lesson making this the ideal first watch for children also.
‘My children should not learn the time on a smartphone!’ says co-founder Thomas Andersen, ‘For me, it is important that my children actually learn the time on a real watch, in a fun and intuitive way. That’s why the watches here are made with the child at the center – both in terms of design and functionality’.
The watches are made with big, easy to read numbers on the dial filled with Super LumiNova making it glow in the dark, and finally fitted with a rotating bezel with a single big triangle.
The case is made in the same high quality 316L surgical steel as you find in About Vintage’s main collection, the movement is Japanese quartz from Miyota, and the soft velcro-strap can be easily changed without tools, due go the quick release feature on the pins. And to wipe away any shadow of doubt on how serious they are about it, About Vintage offers a lifetime guarantee in defects in the Fandango watches.
