The Ultimate Coffee Station: Turning Your Kitchen Into A Boutique Gallery

coffee

Any true coffee lover will tell you that your home coffee corner is the best reflection of the lengths you’re willing to go to for your beloved cup of joe. It might have started with a humble French press, a manual coffee grinder, and your first bag of specialty coffee beans. Before you know it, there’s one of those fancy bean-to-cup coffee machines on your counter, a selection of several different coffees from your favourite coffee-growing region, and a stack of cups so large it’s becoming difficult to contain… From a moka pot on your shelf, to an increasingly cluttered coffee corner, to a neatly organised coffee station: if you’ve already made it this far, why not take it one step further by turning that dedicated brewing area into your personal café? People call it cafécore—and we call it one of those rare trends that’s absolutely worth hopping onto.

Cafécore: A Lifestyle, Not a Design Trend

From cottagecore to fairycore, goblincore, and beyond, our social media feeds have been inundated with some of the most out-there aesthetic trends over the past couple of years. Some of them are cosy, classic, and laid-back, while others are whimsical, niche, and, well, just plain weird at times. In 2024, a new trend emerged amongst them: dubbed cafécore, it celebrated the warm, intimate atmosphere of those delightfully quirky cafés that can now be found in any city, big or small. Wooden shelves, soft lighting, cushy seating, some vintage accessories for that rustic vibe… It’s more than a space for a cuppa: it’s an invitation to sink into a sofa, relax, and perhaps stay for a little while longer than originally intended.

Cafécore isn’t just about bringing that cosy aesthetic into your home kitchen. That’s a part of it, sure—but it’s about living the cafécore lifestyle too. To be truly #cafécore, you’ve got to be willing to romanticise your morning rituals, not mindlessly rush through them. Slow down, relax, take the time to really appreciate the silky-smooth layer of milk foam topping your morning latte. That trusty bean-to-cup coffee machine—the functional heart of your coffee station—will keep the ritual going smoothly, but in order to create the right atmosphere, you’ll have to look beyond it. The good news is that making your mornings feel that much more special doesn’t have to take much: a cosy colour palette, a vintage table lamp, a few soft cushions, some meaningful accessories, perhaps a houseplant or two… Think less about a specific aesthetic, and focus more on nailing the vibe: that’s the right way to do cafécore.

Lights, Coffee, Action: Crafting Your Cafécore Haven

So, you’ve got your dedicated coffee corner ready: whether big or small, it’s fully functional. What you need now is that cosy cafécore vibe that the whole Internet’s been raving about lately. Luckily for you, there’s no need to go big! When it comes to personalising your coffee space, a few small tweaks can make a world of difference:

  1. Coffee-inspired colour scheme. To nail that cosy colour scheme your neighbourhood café boasts, why not use the cup of joe itself as an inspiration? Think creamy milk whites and subtle latte browns, interspersed here and there with rousing pops of colour reminiscent of your favourite pastries. All you need is a couple of colourful mugs against a neutral, subdued background, and that’s the cafécore basics covered!
  2. Lighting as warm as your latte. Forget harsh overhead lighting: what you need is the warmth of a vintage table lamp, or some fairy lights hanging merrily over the edge of a shelf. Natural light is always a plus, but if you’re short on space and that window nook is already taken, a couple of well-placed artificial sources can help you craft an all-day-long golden-hour glow!
  3. Seating to sink into. No cosy café is complete without some cushy seating. Worried your kitchen may not be large enough for a dedicated table and a few comfy chairs? A small window seat or a compact vintage sofa can work just as well. Throw a velvet cushion on there, add a couple of soft blankets, grab a book, and get ready to curl up for the evening: unlike your neighbourhood café, this one doesn’t close when the clock strikes 6 PM!
  4. Accessories that tell a story. This last tip might just be the most fun to implement: with the colour scheme, the lighting, and the seating covered, it’s now time to make your cafécore area entirely your own! The best cafés are those with character, and nothing creates character as well as little knick-knacks and quirky handcrafted decorations do. Put your mug collection on display, hang some photos or vintage posters on the wall, show off that quaint ceramic bowl you’ve made by hand a couple of years ago… Cafécore isn’t about perfection. It’s all about the details that tell the story of what your coffee corner means to you

Bringing Your Favourite Café Home

Ready to turn the little kitchen corner that houses your beloved bean-to-cup machine into the cafécore-inspired centrepiece it deserves to be? One more little tip before you start: why not grab a friend or two, and pay a visit to your favourite café? There’s no better place for inspiration: after all, with cafécore, the ultimate goal is to bring that treasured spot for a cuppa home!
