I’m in the midst of writing the second draft of my book Mumboss (and should be writing THAT not THIS POST about IT to be fair) as it’s is in this Friday…THIS FRIDAY, EVERYONE (eek!) just 4 days away. I thrive on a deadline though, it’s my preferred way of working: under pressure.
I need a looming date of delivery to be my most productive otherwise distraction kicks in and my creative mind flies. I create my greatest work under pressure and it’s always been this way if uni and studying for my BA and MA is anything to go by…or evening this morning as I just made the school bell on the school-run!
I’ve relished writing this book, the long form of it (70,000 words) has taken me right back to my screenwriting days, and working with my editor Jillian Young (at Piatkus/ Little Brown/ Hachette) has been a dream. She understood my vision, and me from day one and has given me the most pertinent of notes on draft one, inspiring me to make sure the second draft is more economically written, and spans all the areas a reader needs whether they’re returning back to work or starting up a digital business.
Jillian has asked me to cut a lot of quotes too as there were far too many in there (from many wonderful people I must add) but who were sharing similar experiences or their excepts were too long, and the book is more succinct and engaging for the cuts.
I’ve also merged two chapters together and covered areas such as writer’s block and dealing with naysayers and trolls too.
The book cover photo taken by the renowned Joseph Sinclair, has now been chosen and I’ll be sharing it with the pre-order link and a behind-the-scenes vlog I made from the shoot, soon.
Most of all, I want to end with a cheesy but true summary-this book is for you guys. Truly.
I’m brought to tears daily by the touching emails, tweets and messages from others saying I’ve inspired them to start a blog/vlog/ business. It’s what drives me and keeps me going.
I hope this inspires many more.
Mumboss hits the shops in March 2018.
