Last Night JLS Phoned My Cousin

Last night something amazing happened. My gorgeous friend Jess Huie (publicist and founder of the wonderful multicultural cards and gift company Colorblind Cards) arranged for JLS, friends of hers to call my younger cousin Solos.

Solos has learning difficulties and finds such immense joy in JLS and their music. He reminds me of my teen obsession with Kylie and Jason and really is the band’s biggest fan!

I moved in with him and his family for a week when I was directing commercials near to their home last year and I witnessed first hand his utter adoration of the boys-he would watch and re watch their videos whenever he could and played their music on loop, again and again.

Last night, they made a teenager’s dream come true-they phoned him and chatted to him as if he were an old friend, asking him about college and what he enjoys doing.

Solos was star struck but oh so happy. Not only are the boys incredibly talented but they’re also incredibly caring and sweet. Solos got his sister Georgia to record the phone conversation on her iPhone and promptly posted it on his facebook page. Watching it brought tears to my eyes. It meant the world to him. Holding my newborn in my arms, I quickly texted a friend about what happened and she replied, “Things like that make me glow inside. It shows there’s love everywhere”.

At that moment baby Alexander looked lovingly straight into my eyes. Love really is everywhere.

Thank you Jess and thank you JLS-last night you made my cousin’s whole, entire year and he’ll remember it for life.
