It’s a joy to welcome my pal Maggy to the blog today with her darling Strawberry Box paper craft your kids can make below, along with an exciting giveaway of her brilliant Easy Paper Projects Book worth £9.99 too (the perfect antidote to bored children, right now).
Over to Maggy for all the details…
it’s Maggy from Red Ted Art. So nice to be here today, with this little crafting activity and giveaway!
I ADORE Paper Crafts for Kids. Paper is so easily accessible and rather surprisingly, versatile too! And, no.. it is not JUST Origami that you can make with paper, but all sorts of other wonderful crafts, from Corner Bookmarks to Paper Gift Boxes (see below for a gorgeous Strawberry Box or Decoration you can make form just paper).
To celebrate this love of paper and also to provide (what we hope is a great) resource to my readers, I wrote this brand new Easy Paper Projects book for kids! In it, you will find 60 fabulously easy paper crafts that kids will love to make.
The book is aimed at kids aged 8 – 12 years old for self directed crafting.. with younger ones able to join in with some help from parents. The book is also designed to encourage kids to craft beyond the projects in the book. Make one thing – how can you turn it into something new? E.g. I show you how to make an easy paper gift bag at Christmas.. but can you use the same process to make birthday gift bags or party bags from old comic books? One idea.. many applications.
And the best bit??? All you need is some paper, maybe some card, scissors, glue and pens!!!!
Today, the lovely Vicki and I are giving away a copy of the book to one lucky reader.
Here’s how you make the Strawberry Box
A pretty little paper decoration for summer. These 3D strawberries can be used as décor (once again, string them up on some ribbon) or used to hold a little treat. Fill with a chocolate and give to a friend!
- Red paper
- Medium green paper scraps
- Ribbon or thread for closing
- Small treat or gift (optional)
- Hole punch
- Black pen
- Small side plate for measuring (15cm diameter is good)
- Tin can for measuring (7.5cm diameter is good)
Step 1 – Trace and cut out both your circles.
Step 2 – Beginning with your red circle – fold it in half.
Step 3 – Then fold it in half again two more times.
Step 4 – Use a pencil to draw a petal shape on your folded circle. The petal should go from the middle of the first edge, to the top of the curve and back down to the middle of the second edge.
Step 5 – Cut this out. And hole punch the top of the petal.
Step 6 – Open up and you should have a flower shape. Cut one quarter out as you won’t need this.
Step 7 – Add some black lines as strawberry seeds.
Step 8 – Thread a thread through your strawberry holes.
Step 9 -Thread the last thread through the first hole and pull for the strawberry to come together and from. Tie a knot.
Step 10 – Cut your strawberry leaf. Follow step 1 – 4 – making your petal shape pointy at the top (for a leaf) and snipping a small part away at the bottom – this will give you a hole for threading.
Step 11 – Open up. Pop the thread through the centre or your strawberry leaf and you’re done. You may wish to add a little glue to the bottom of the leaf to secure, but it isn’t strictly necessary.
Your Strawberry is finished.
I do hope you like this example from the book. These Paper Strawberries are so fun to make… and there is plenty more inspiration from where that came from! Whilst you wait to find out if you won the book or not.. why not check out more of our Easy Kids Crafts?!
