We were kindly gifted an exquisite and importantly, durable (required with three kids) Ruggable rug for our new forever home. The rug was generously sent to us in celebration of the newly launched, bold, patterned and utterly memorable Ruggable x Malene Barnett collection.
Ruggable, the design-forward home goods brand launched this collection with Malene Barnett, a multidisciplinary artist, textile surface designer and community builder in the summer and now that we have finally moved into our brand new home after a year of renovations with more work needed, I finally wanted to share this Malene Barnett Sgraffito Royal Blue Rug which covers most of our lounge floor. We could only photograph one corner of the lounge as the other side still looks like a building site!

As a fan of abstract art, this multicolored rug inspired by the painting technique of sgraffito stole my heart when I spotted it in the collection and it’s even more vibrant in person.
Crafted with strokes of layered colors, intricately carved into each other, the result is a rug like no other: a dynamic visual composition of painterly lines skillfully scratched away and blended back together creating a palette of patches and lines dancingover and adjacent to one another, blurring the lines between art, sculpture and homewear. What a dreamy collab they make.
The rug’s earthy color palette combines hints of turquoise, smoky blue, soft red, burnt orange, and lime green against a royal blue background which work in unison but also provide a focal point to our dark rose toned lounge, and royal blue sofa.
The rug reminds me of the blanket of terracotta and azure blue you see in Greece, and Cyprus, where my family are originally from. Glorious!
