Both my children, Oliver, 10, and Alexander, 8, have suffered with insomnia intermittently over the years due to hormonal changes or school moves (Oliver is experiencing puberty currently). Of course, Covid has affected us all, heightening anxiety and worry. In my case, stress mostly manifests at night and always has, resulting in nightmares/ terrors even now, and while I’ve found the nightly ritual of a warm bath, 15 minutes of pre-bedtime yoga and a light meal, helps, I’m endlessly looking out for sleep aids to induce slumber.
The DROWSY Sleep S.O.S Kids sleep spray has been well documented of late, with families citing it as a miracle relief from insomnia/ nightterrors in children (there is an adult version I’ve not tried), so I wanted to give it a whirl on the boys for a few weeks (I bought it on Amazon) and report back to you.

Indications:
Sleep aid, kids bedtime, children sleep, parent natural sleep aid.
Ingredients:
Aqua, Natural essential oils, Polysorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Benzyl alcohol, Benzyl salicylate, Citral, Eugenol, Geraniol, Iso Eugenol, Citronellol, Farnesol, Limonene, Linalool.
Directions:
Shake well before use. Spritz 2-5 times on your child’s pillow every night before sleep. Use as part of your bedtime routine to create a stress-free experience for kids and adults. Tip 1: Use the spray as a physical cue to let your child know it’s time to sleep without telling them directly. Tip 2: Read to your child for 15 minutes after using the spray, so that the gentle effect of the scent combined with the story will help them mentally wind down.
…I usually spray 5 squirts on each boys’ pillows before bed, and for the first time in 9 months, Alexander slept through two nights in a row after use.
On the third night, when he awoke, he wasn’t visibly anxious as with previous wakeful nights (he hadn’t experienced a nightmare) and in the space of 2 weeks, he’s only woken up twice: completley unheard of prior to us using the spray.
Oliver’s experience is also a success story as he has slept through every night since we’ve used the spray. If he ever woke up, he would fall asleep immediately (not disturbing us) and now, he’s now no longer wakeful.
I will continue using it on sons as a helpful sleep aid but I personally found the scent (essential oil mix which smells of citrus, lavender and rose) too strong for me when I tried it but on the plus side, it’s long-lasting. I also think the price point is high for the volume (£18.95 but £1 from every bottle sold is donated to Mind). Perhaps once the sleep routine solidifies, I won’t need to use it nightly on the boys, and just at times of heightened stress.
I would wholeheartedly recommend DROWSY if your child (6 months +) is struggling to sleep.
