⭐️💜Getting Stan The Man on the Gram 💜⭐️! Meet my wonderful neighbour and new bestie, the almost 87 year old Stanley. Only 5 when World World 2 broke out, lasting until he was 11, Stan’s Mum couldn’t part with him so he wasn’t evacuated to the countryside and stayed put in Paddington throughout the bombings. Such a brave soul. He was called for National Service at 18 and travelled the world in the military before meeting his beloved late wife Maureen whom he shared childcare with while they both worked, him owning a painting company, her, a Secretary. Stan was a feminist before the term even existed. Stan and I hang out several times a week, going on long walks together putting the world to rights and laughing endlessly and he’s a surrogate Grandfather to my kids as my Dad is 4 hours away and they recently lost their other Grandpa, David. Stan brings so much joy and wisdom into our lives and we’re grateful to have met him. Yay for intergenerational friendships 💓💓. Have you got a ‘Stan’ in your life? P.S. Today has been such a happy day for my family and I as it was my 20 week scan (I’m 21 weeks tomorrow) and our rainbow 🌈 baby girl 👧 was waving, dancing and cradling her little face for her close up!!! A new blog post is live at honestmum.com on being 20 weeks pregnant and finding a fearlessness within 🤰 💪 ⚡️🙌. Extract below, click on the link in my bio to read in full 📱 💻. ‘Once the haze of first trimester fatigue and nausea finally eased, a surprising streak of strength revealed itself to me, a shocking bright light of fearlessness, a maternal super power if you like.
The murmurs of post-loss anxiety remain of course, like lingering lift Muzak after my miscarriage late last year, and no doubt will until this baby’s safe arrival but I can see clearly now, in vivid technicolour and with a sharpened clarity I’ve not experienced before.
A guilt-free enforcing of boundaries has finally found its top note, a protective drawbridge is firmly up, stone walls envelope me only letting in the light, shielding baby and I from harm.
I read recently that we female fetuses are born with all the eggs we’ll have in our lifetime, and when our grandmothers housed our mothers in their womb, we lived there as an egg, deep within our mother and grandmother, too. Perhaps this revelatory courage I’ve found of of late was borne from my ancestral line of brave, strong women, their courage now coursing through my veins on a cellular level, literally empowering me’. Now the kids are growing up (all too quickly, if you ask me), we thought it was time to upgrade their wheels-their scooter wheels that is- for electric ones and from the sounds of their gushing, ‘wow, these scooters are cool’ when they unboxed them, it’s safe to say they’re over the moon with these scooters-cum-mini bike beauties. <Gifted press visit>. Pics 👉👈. A weekend of R ‘n’ R was just what we-infact, I-needed after weeks of battling intermittent bouts of nausea and fatigue thanks to my precious rainbow baby and of course, not having left the house for a break in many, many months, and the timing couldn’t have been any better as my sickness lifted within an hour of us arriving at the heavenly and restorative @deverebeaumontestate in Old Windsor, a short drive from where we live. I honestly can’t remember the last time I felt as relaxed.
Absolute proof that hopping in the car, just five minutes away from home can literally transport you to a different world. A world of no washing or cooking, just excellent food and an opulent suite the size of a house with a bath tub of dreams to call your own for two whole days.
An 18th-century mansion with a chapel, 75 event spaces and a Georgian white house (which we stayed in) De Vere Beamont Estate spans 40 acres of the postcard-pretty parkland grounds with natural ponds and animal themed sculptures as well as a playground for the kids, and original features throughout from antique vases and valises, chaise longues and even the original framed dorm keys from when it was once a school, many moons ago.
Beaumont’s elegance never fails to impress us nor does its attention to detail (particularly when it comes to the children’s toys and activity packs laid out in Eeception, the rooms and even the excellent restaurant), and we feel incredibly lucky to have been invited to stay there on several occasions in the past, each time providing a unique but equally restful stay for us all.
Then, it was more of the same magic as the day before as the kids rolled down hilly lawns, followed tree-lined trails and watched in awe as bunny rabbits huddled in the bushes. It really was the perfect weekend away. <Gifting>. I’m 17 weeks pregnant🤰now and baby girl is the size of a potato 🥔 (funnily enough my biggest food aversion so far-if you watch my stories you’ll know all about those and the sickness trigger my new IKEA cupboards are giving me 😂). To be fair though, I’m definitely feeling more human now that I’m firmly in the 2nd trimester despite still needing day naps 😴 -2 today after an hour long show debating on @bbc5live at 11 pm last night, and I’m still suffering with some nausea but mostly only in the mornings so a big improvement from the 1st trimester. Trying to embrace my ever-changing body too (I’m already waddling!) but feeling truly grateful it’s doing its magical thing and growing this precious rainbow baby 🌈 . Thanks to @sundayandsoul for the pretty tee and @tlcsportuk for the luxe leggings gifted via @clewercommunications. I thought they were maternity clothes but they’re not, they’re just fabulously stretchy. I am starting to wear some maternity pieces though and I’m also loving @natalactive for wonderful mat leggings❤️. Big thanks too to this caring community for all your dms and support, you never fail to lift me up or make me laugh when I feel worried or unwell.
