Wonderful Women Interview with Gabby Logan, Sports Presenter, #TeenTalk Ambassador & Mum of Two

Gaby Logan

Celebrity mum Gabby Logan and her 12 year old daughter Lois, have joined forces with Boots and trusted brands including Always, Tampax and Venus for the second year of the #TeenTalk campaign, which provides parents with the tips and tools to have the #TeenTalk with confidence.

Puberty is a real rite of passage for both parents and teens, and parents can often feel as confused and unsure about how to approach this as teens.  Recent research from Boots and P&G reveals just how challenging this this life-stage can be:

·         33% of parents wish they could talk more openly with their teen

·         68% of parents find it difficult to approach puberty topics with their teen, so much so that a quarter avoid the #TeenTalk completely

·         1 in 5 parents are unsure about how to start the puberty conversation

To address this, campaign ambassador Gabby Logan and her daughter Lois joined a panel of real parents and daughters to take part in the #TeenTalk experiment. This involved mums, dads and teens having the #TeenTalk every other day for a week; trying out different environments, topics and formats with each conversation. Their experiences are available on Boots.com from the 10th May with the aim to offer reassurance and support to other parents and teens who are navigating this new lifestyle together.

Describe a typical day for you?
No two days are the same. We tend to be fairly early risers usually around 6.30am and the kids are off and out by 7.45am at the latest. I could be in Manchester filming or in London working but I try to get my schedule to work around the children’s day. When I get home I cook and do homework and spots activities if I am not working in the evening. If I have a day working from home I like to run or play tennis or do some yoga.

What do you feel are your biggest achievements?
Keeping the family going! We work well as a team and my husband also has a hectic schedule we are all there for each other and try to make time to do lovely things as a family. We support each other in our passions and I think that is important.

What’s in your handbag?
Notebooks, purse, tampons, pens, elastic bands, water, school letters, Love Hearts and a lacrosse ball.

What are your ambitions in life?
To be able to keep working on things I love and have a balance with family life, to travel with my family and follow their passions and interests. I love watching them play sport and sing and do all the things they love, it’s such a joy.

What do you wish you’d known at the start of your career you now know?
That it wasn’t going to run out by the time I was 30.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Writing more and hopefully still doing interesting TV projects.

What advice would you give a budding presenter and gymnast?
There are no short cuts in either career, bit especially in sport, its all about practise and perseverance.

What do you wish you’d known before having kids, you now know?
Things never ‘go back to normal’. Which is great but it took a few years to work that out.

Now your kids are hitting teen age, how have you found having the teen talk?
It’s been very open and honest, much more candid and mature than my teenage years. They want to know everything and seem much more clued up but they still have meltdowns and insecurities and that’s where we as parents can really help.

Finally, happiness is…being close to the ones you love.
