Rock Rose Gin

This mama sure loves a gin and tonic and I know I’m not alone there, right ladies (and gents)!

Well peeps you are in for a treat as the kind folks at Rock Rose Gin have offered me a bottle (it’s delicious btw) to raffle here so one lucky reader can try it for themselves!

Here’s a bit more about the beauty:

  • It comes from the wilderness of the far North of Scotland (Caithness) where the botanicals are hand foraged on the cliffs and forest to create a truly unique gin.
  • The distillery is run by a husband and wife team, who carefully and slowly distill the gin by hand.
  • It gets its name from the first botanical forage along the cliffs of Peatland First, where they discovered the Rhodiola rosea (a rose in the rocks) and the gin uses this ‘Rock Rose’ and a blend of local and traditional botanicals to create a unique taste from the Highlands of Scotland.
  • This ‘Rock Rose’ was once pillaged by the Vikings who thought it would give them extra strength and if taken daily would make them live to 200 years old!
  • The gin has received lots of awards and critical acclaim and was most recently received the Gold Award for Best Gin at The Grocer Drink Awards.
  • They also have Seasonal Editions of the Gin with Winter currently available and a new recipe Spring Gin to launch in March.
  • It’s also fragrant, refreshing and my new favourite drink. Yay!

Ends April 4 2017.

I adore gin and it looks like so much has gone into making this product. I love the fact that it is a family run business too ! To win so many awards it must be very special and I would love to try it.

I love Gin! We tend to always stick to the same old brands/types – it would be great to try something different 🙂

My parents would enjoy trying it I’m sure. I’ve never got the taste for gin, which is maybe just as well really.

I love Scottish Gin and those Vikings can’t be wrong about it giving them extra strength can they? They were a pretty unstoppable bunch 😉

I would love to try a different brand. I’ve always thought of gin as a quintessentially English drink so it would be interesting to try one from Scotland.

I like the fact that the distillery is run by a couple who distill the gin by hand and that they use foraged botanicals from the local cliffs as ingredients. It sounds delicious and i would love to try this gin.

I would really, really love to win this. Not just because I’m a fan of fine gins (which I am) but because the happiest year of my youth was spent living in Thurso, a few miles from Dunnet Bay where Rock Rose is produced. Naturally I was too young to be interested in gin then, and it was many years ago, long before Rock Rose came into existence, but I would love to have a bottle of it to share with my 91 year old Mum. Her life is really nothing but memories now, and we could enjoy the gin together while sharing memories of our wonderful family picnics on Dunnet Beach. We always used to take a melon on those picnics, and cut it up on the bonnet of the car, burying the seeds at the edge of the sand dunes. I wonder if there are “wild” honeydew melons growing there now?

We’ve not spotted any ‘wild’ honeydew melons growing but we’ll certainly look out for them now! 🙂
