Noble Macmillan are a luxury goods company encompassing everything from photo albums to luxury games, diaries and beyond. A birdie informed them of my stationery obsession an they kindly sent me this personalised non-leather Jubilee Small Plain Journal (£45) in red (there are 9 colours to choose from) and it hasn’t left my side since I received it.
Elegant, smart and soft as (vegan) butter, it’s the perfect size to fit in my smallest of bags and I’ve even managed to hide it from the boys and Alexander’s teddy drawings which feature in a lot of my others notebooks!
Seriously though, I’ve mentioned the importance of having a notebook nearby both on this blog and in my book Mumboss. Nothing beats pen on paper when it comes to inspiration and I have notebooks full of ideas, some which have come to fruition, others I hope will do one day.
I kept a diary throughout childhood starting as early as 4 writing and drawing trips abroad and did so until late teen-hood (embarrassingly, mostly lists of boys I’d ‘snogged’), and while my blog is an extension of those former more carefree days, I still like to note down memories and chart milestones (funny things my kids say and recipes they like) along with blog post inspiration onto paper (some find themselves documented digitally too).
Both are of course important ways to archive memories for posterity, some in book form, others hopefully for years to come, online.
I’ve started to theme my notebooks I now have so many: a wipe-able one for my recipes with some housing several drafts of the same one until I’ve reached a standard my own little chefs approve of and others rest by my bedside for the, ‘can’t sleep until I write this idea down’ moments. Others are gratitude diaries or simply reams and reams of to-do lists I like to tick off.
This one though is the start of a new chapter (literally) as I’m embarking on writing an IRL (ha) diary. Just a date with a paragraph or two charting every day life. No posing for photos or sharing of information just a simple return to my old diary writing days without the pressure of being seen. Perhaps I’ll document the process if it’s something you’d like to read about.
