The Perfect Energising Breakfast: Kippers, Boiled Eggs & a White Grapefruit

The perfect weekend breakfast, I love to slice a grapefruit, boil up some eggs and griddle pan some smoked kippers as a treat for Peter and I.

This was the most simple but pleasurable shoot to style. I often think the easiest food to make can be the tastiest and most visually appealing.

And a pretty breakfast shouldn’t just be reserved for hotel stays.

I decided to treat ourselves to a king’s feast of a breakfast the other week and couldn’t wait to share it with you all!

kippers with butterIn case you weren’t sure how many minutes eggs require for diffferent textures here is the low down:

• For runny soft-boiled eggs (barely set whites): 3 minutes

• For slightly runny soft-boiled eggs: 4 minutes

• For custardy yet firm soft-boiled eggs: 6 minutes

• For firm yet still creamy hard-boiled eggs: 10 minutes

For very firm hard-boiled eggs: 15 minutes.

What a delicious protein, fibre and nutrient filled start to the morning. How do you like your eggs?!

I adore kippers and cannot remember the last time I ate them … yet I think I can get them in Normandy. In fact I think they are still called kippers in French. I will investigate when I go shoppin g later this week.

Hi Vicki, I haven’t have proper kippers for years, we used to have them on brown bread and butter. Eggs and fish always go well together (I love eggs) and whilst I wouldn’t have thought to have grapefruit with it, I can see how the fruit balances out the whole breakfast.

Your breakfast is making my Greek yogurt, nuts and fruit breakfast look not so appetizing anymore!

    Enjoy your breakfast!

I love this! I haven’t had kippers for years but it reminds me of the type of Saturday lunches my dad would sometimes make for us when we were younger!
