The Distillery lunch

The Mother of All Mother’s Day Feasts at The Distillery London

The Distillery London

What a treat Mothers’ Day was for me last week as The Distillery London at 186 Portobello Road invited my family and I over to enjoy a long lunch on them, and some gin too for good measure! These guys are gin experts!

Plus, the gin is so freaking good there that I even declined their kind offer for Moet to enjoy a refreshing glass of G&T, toasting mamas everywhere as I sipped away!

If you’ve not heard of The Distillery firstly where have you been?! (ha) but it’s a four-floor dreamboat of a venue for discerning drinkers everywhere and it’s the first of its kind in the UK too. Not only is it a working distillery but also the new home for the internationally-renowned Portobello Road Gin and the critically acclaimed gin-blending experience, The Ginstitute (which you can win an experience for, at the bottom of this post). The Distillery also houses two bars, a private dining room, and three guest lodgings at the top too if you fancy a sleep over!

How incredible is that?!

Set in one of the most picturesque parts of London: Portobello is a pastel-hue lovers dream and after clocking these beauts I’ve decided that when I grow up (!), I’d like to live in a pink house please (soz Peter)!

As you can see the the journey to The Distillery by foot from Paddington Station was almost as fun as actually eating there as we stopped by old haunts (I used to live on Westbourne Grove) to pose by plush properties in the sun and I even had to rock my shades as the light was so bright!

Honest Mum

After all that tiring work (!) we replenished ourselves in The Resting Room at The Distillery (a cocktail bar which serves British classics) enjoying hands-down the tastiest roast I’ve ever eaten (sorry Mum) with all the trimmings-think Christmas Day meets Mothers Day followed by dessert heaven.

Since embarking on a lower carb, healthy eating plan over the last two weeks (losing 6 lbs so far with another 5 ish to go) I painfully gave my appreciative gang my portion of potatoes and pudbut enjoyed caramelised carrots, creamy cauliflower cheese, tangy red cabbage and juicy, tender chicken that was roasted to perfection (the crispy skin was out of this world).

I will admit a spoonful of sticky toffee pudding and also chocolate fondant with liquorice ice cream were consumed for the purposes of this review (it’s only fair right? 😉 ) and I can’t wait to return to inhale a plate-full once I’ve reached my goal weight!

Damn good food.

Happy days!

The kids lapped up lunch and I loved the day vibe after enjoying the buzz there on an evening with friends.

The Distillery

With art-deco style interiors: all moody dark wood, olive green tiles and stained glass mirrors, The Distillery is one heck of a stunner while feeling warm and welcoming.  Other young families tucked into their roasts too, sat side by side with couples on dates and shoppers taking a breather from Portobello Market admiring their vintage buys. Just how lunch in London should look and feel.

It was a day filled with the best of company, food and an ambience that made me feel like I’d pitched up in a cool brasserie in Paris, I never wanted to leave.

Now, excitingly you can win 2 tickets to The Ginstitute which is nestled in The Distillery’s basement and is London’s premier gin-making experience worth £240 in total.

I can’t wait to try it myself too!

The Ginstitute

The sessions take place daily and the winner can book onto any session within the next 12 months (you will be sent 2 gift vouchers so can take  a friend).

And this is what you’ll receive.

Here comes the science bit:

The Ginstitute provides a unique and unrivalled opportunity to better understand the true spirit of London. Patrons begin their spirituous journey with a whirlwind history of gin which spans one thousand years (almost). Their knowledgeable ‘Ginstructors’ will take you on a whistle-stop journey through the fascinating and often dark history of ‘Mother’s Ruin’ where you’ll learn all you need to know about gin!

The Ginstitute

History lesson over, you’ll then head to the blending rooms right in the heart of the working distillery to test your senses with a tutored tasting and nosing of the botanical ingredients of London Dry Gin, ready to create your own bespoke, one‐of‐a‐kind, unique and hopefully delicious gin.

To mark your graduation, you will be presented with a full-size bottle of your very own personal gin, the recipe of which will be kept on file for you to reorder as often as you fancy. What a cool gift that would make!

The Ginstitute

Tickets are usually £120 each and include 4 gin drinks, a 70cl bottle of your own unique gin and a bottle of Portobello Road Gin.

Good luck!
