It was my wonderful mum friend Carolyn’s birthday last week and boy did we spend it in style thanks to the Runnymede Hotel and Spa who kindly invited us to chill our beans there on a rainy Monday.
It was just what we busy mamas needed (Caroline is often travelling to the US with work and is a superwoman head of the PTA all-rounder) and we spent most of the day with our feet up (literally) in a restorative infra red sauna with intermittent trips to the steam rooms and jacuzzi. We did do a spot of swimming too (my favourite sport)- and A WHOLE LOT of eating (my second favourite sport), and a even bigger lot of yapping (OK, that is my FAVOURITE sport) and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
The food was outstanding, and there were lots of vegan options for me in the designated spa restaurant where they laid on a lunch with bubbles for us. I relished the sweet potato salad with mustard dressing. Carolyn opted for veggie quiche and new potatoes followed by apple and plum crumble for her, drizzled in custard.
Treatment-wise, I enjoyed a perfect pedi plumping for hot pink toes (I loved that I got to lie down for the treatment too) while Carolyn enjoyed a rejuvenating facial with back massage which frankly made the birthday girl look 21 again.
What a day. Chilling, reading, swimming, putting the world to rights and then on to make the school-run like new women.
I love how serious I’ve gotten about self-care lately.
Work hard, rest harder.
Thanks to the Runnymede Hotel and Spa for making us chill out and rest up and for making Carolyn’s birthday so special.
We’ll be back.
