It’s that time of year again when the sun begins to shine a bit brighter and the days grow longer- the perfect conditions for a good old-fashioned garden BBQ. Yay!
But before you can start rustling up an al fresco feast, there’s a bit of preparation to be done.
Fear not, though, I’ve got you covered with my top tips to get your outdoor cooking space ready for the summer.
First things first, take a good hard look at your BBQ. When was the last time you gave it a thorough clean? Over the winter months, it’s likely to have accumulated a fair bit of grime and debris so roll up those sleeves and get scrubbing. A quick wipe-down of the grates, a brush of the
burners, and a gentle pressure wash of the exterior should have it looking spick and span in no time.
While you’re at it, do a quick inspection of the gas lines and connections. Make sure there are no cracks or leaks, and consider replacing any worn or damaged parts. If it’s beyond repair, buy a new one or use a disposable one.
Safety should always be the top priority when it comes to outdoor cooking.
Now, let’s talk about the surface you’l be cooking on. If your patio or decking is looking a bit worse for wear, it might be time to consider a revamp. Why not explore the option of installing some sleek and durable limestone or porcelain paving, my favourite? These materials not only look utterly chiq, but they’re also incredibly easy to maintain, making them a fantastic choice for high-traffic areas like your garden BBQ zone.
Limestone paving, with its natural, earthy tones, can create a beautiful, rustic-chic vibe, while porcelain tiles offer a more contemporary, clean-cut aesthetic. Both options are highly resistant to weathering, so you can rest assured that your new flooring will withstand the elements and continue to look fabulous year after year.
When it comes to laying your new paving or tiles, it’s best to enlist the help of a professional.
They’ll be able to ensure the surface is properly prepared, levelled, and that the finished result is seamless and long-lasting. Trust me, it’s worth the investment for the peace of mind and the stunning end product.
Once your new flooring is in place, it’s time to start thinking about the finishing touches. Consider adding some cozy outdoor seating, perhaps a weatherproof rug or two or maybe even a shade structure to keep you, your family and guests protected from the sun, cool and comfortable. Don’t forget the all- important BBQ accessories like a sturdy grill brush, tongs and a handy timer to ensure your culinary creations are cooked to perfection.
With your garden BBQ area spruced up and ready to go, all that’s left to do is fire up the coals, crack open a cold drink, and enjoy the fruits of your labour. Here’s to a summer of alfresco dining and making memories with family and friends!
