Saturday’s Birthday & 3 Year Blogiversary!

It was my birthday and blogiversary on Saturday, I turned 33 and my blog a whopping 3!

We are officially out of the terrible two’s which were in fact anything but for this, here blog.

The last year in particular, has brought me a bigger audience, greater online friendships, new business ventures and media appearances so thank you, thank you, thank you, you awesome, loyal readers, you rock!

I love sharing my life with you all and reading all your comments, literally makes my day!

I want to say a massive, special thank you to my husband Peter too (below) who runs the technical side of the blog (I can write code now but he keeps them polished) as well as taking the stunning pictures you see here daily so a HUGE thanks Mr P!

He atually hates being in front of the camera but I love this pic I took on my phone of Oliver and him so wanted to share it!

…So let’s rewind 3 years, I actually think I initially went live on my first post earlier in November in 2010 but changed the date to be my birthday so I’d never forget it. And, Wow, what a 3 years it’s been (and 33 years too of course! )

One of my closest friends and fellow filmmaker, Amancay, (above who along with my great friend Sharmin celebrated my birthday last weekend) was the one who encouraged me to start the blog all those years ago, in fact she called me and called me until I did.

She was determined I share all the stories I told her about first time motherhood to the world and thank goodness she pestered me because thanks to her, I found my voice again after a traumatic birth with my first baby, Oliver, and a way to come to terms with my new identity, far from family.

Originally my posts were mostly funny-comedy was my refuge- so tales of my hysterical Big Fat Greek family and my often challenging journey acclimatising from being a busy director leading crews of 100 plus, to my brave new world becoming a mum of one colicky baby boy who hated sleep, with Cbeebies on repeat.

Motherhood is truly wonderful but it can also be baffling, isolating and scary and starting this blog and connecting with so many other women who felt the same as I did, via their blogs and on twitter was an emotional lifesaver. Really.

…Three years on, my blog has evolved of course (we now hav Nick Jr on repeat)…but seriously,  it encompasses many of passions from parenting to screenwriting, film, food and beyond.

My tone has changed, the humour is still there with some posts but my voice adapts with my mood. The blog is a reflection of who I am, it feeds my life and my life feeds it.

I have two beautiful boys now too, Alexander arrived calmly in September 2012 and completed our little family of four.

My work life has changed too, this blog has also become my business which works around my kids (thank you Grandparents for all your childcare) along with a TV screenwriting project I have in development.

Another baby arrived in March 2012 with Honest Mum’s sister blog Mummy’s Got Style, a space for me to share my personal style and all things pretty so life is busier than ever. Just the way I like it!

I’m also hugely proud to be a founding member of boutique social media collective, Mothers & Shakers with 7 other bloggers and friends who are also journalists, screenwriters, designers, teachers and social media gurus. It’s so flipping inspiring working with these amazing, over achieving ladies and our client list is simply growing and growing!

Otherwise, these 33 years have taught me a lot, to cherish those I love more than ever (life is short), to learn when to switch off (it can be hard when social media is part of your job) and to simply be open to all the varied opportunities life throws at you!

I think I used to limit myself by only defining myself as a filmmaker but this blog has shown me that I’m many things, a mother firstly but also a creative who encompasses a multitude of roles not just a director but also a blogger, a writer, a screenwriter, a presenter, an artist and of course, always and forever, an all time booty shaker!

More than anything, as long as my family is healthy and content and I’m being creative (with regular blow-dries to boot!-see above), I’m happy! That’s really what these 33 years of life and the last three years of blogging have taught me!

Thanks to everyone who reads this blog, you’re the best!
