We popped into IKEA yesterday for drawers, storage, a bathroom cabinet (I’m blaming Marie Kondo) and the kids were amazed at the Pick ‘n’ Mix on offer and for not very many pennies either. They want to spend their pocket money there every month!
After we’d loaded up the car, starving marvins, we drove to nearby massive mall The Oracle which felt more resort than shopping centre thanks to being situated on the banks of the River Kennet with a whopping 90 stores on site including Debenhams and House of Fraser, and not forgetting a zillion restaurants including one of our all-time faves YO! Sushi which is part of HOF.
YO! Sushi pleases everyone in this family of four: my vegan self of course, my pescatarian husband, Peter, and my meat eating sons Oliver and Alexander.
With a recently expanded vegan menu I couldn’t wait to tuck into their new plant-based dishes, and my old faves too of course, and most of us ate vegan food over dinner, bar Xander who asked for a Chicken Katsu Burger for his main course.
A huge restaurant which looked like it fit a hundred, it’s far bigger and more luxurious than our local (but still lovely) Windsor branch, making it a romantic date night spot as much as a quick bite in between shopping treat. More brasserie style interiors than futuristic high end fast food joint, this marks a departure for the brand, and I like it.
Also must not that despite it being busy as it was Saturday evening, the staff were polite, attentive, and the food, delicious, as always.
Shout-out to manager Kamil, the host with the most and his brilliant side-kick Assistant Manager Richard.
So, what did we eat?
What didn’t we eat might be easier to answer. We (maki) rolled out of there (soz)!
Here’s the run-down
Miso Soup
Glazed Aubergine Nigiri
Spicy Pepper Cauliflower
Avocado Nigiri
Mushroom Teriyaki Burger
Stir Fried Pak Choi and Garlic
Sushi rice with sesame seeds
Tenderstem and Sesame
Avocado and Cucumber Maki (no mayo)
Tofu Katsu
Tangy, tasty, stunningly presented and super filling with all that plant-based goodness (I’m obsessed with all things tofu btw), even a non-vegan would love this array of dishes.
Delicious!
