Oliver Transforms Into A Young Man

12 year old

Oliver and his new, shorter, slicker haircut (which requires actual styling with gel and hair spray no less) has transformed from boy to young man. A dashing young man at that! I feel its bitter sweet seeing your children grow and mature. Wonderful to witness on one hand but sad as they (rightly) veer a little away from you as they become more independent.

Already wearing menswear in a size small at just 12 years old and about my height to boot, my firstborn sure is growing up.

A second daddy to his much wished for baby sister, Florence, he’s attentive, loving and always on the ball with her, and he’s also my best buddy.

Mature for his age, he’s already completing Science work at GCSE level, tells me he wants to start thinking about which university he hopes to attend (!) and he loves to read. In fact we share so many interests: This Country, The Apprentice and Dragon’s Den when it comes to telly, TikTok (although he’s far more popular than I am there hitting 1 million views on content there), drawing (he mostly sketches cartoons, I, still life), reading (fiction for him, fiction and non fiction for me), playing the piano (a mix of modern and classical for both of us), basketball, vintage cars, Japanese food all day long and country walks in our wellies whenever we can.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Oliver even loves live TV after appearing on news shows since he was small.

What I adore most about that boy is that because we’re so alike, the way we think (and often over-think) means we understand each other one deeply and our bond and loyalty to one another is unbreakable.

I’m so deeply proud of my shining ‘sun’, my star, sweet and serious Oliver. My young man!
