Oliver, Honest Mum's son makes his hot chocolate recipe

To celebrate the launch of Arla’s Lactofree milk into the UK’s leading coffee shop chain Costa, my son, Oliver, 9, has created his favourite hot chocolate recipe for you in this post and the video below using the lactose free milk.

My son prefers Arla’s whole milk (the Arla varieties also come in Skimmed and Semi-Skimmed) and are all without lactose which can prove hard to digest. These Lactofree milks are easier to digest for those who may be lactose intolerant or who have a sensitive gut.

Arla Lactofree milk

Oliver gave the milk the thumbs up saying it had the same taste as his usual milk. There was no unexpected flavour or after-taste when he drank it straight in a glass, or when he rustled up his own hot chocolate recipe.

Oliver makes lactose free hot chocolate

To make his hot chocolate recipe you will need:

  • 1 cup of Arla whole milk (we measured it in the large Costa cup you can buy in select stores and supermarkets)
  • 4 teaspoons of cocoa powder
  • 4 teaspoons of sugar

Stir the cocoa powder and sugar into the cold milk then pop into a saucepan on a medium heat and whisk until smooth and blended. Remove the pan from the heat just before it boils over and ensure it’s cool enough for your child to drink. Oliver couldn’t wait so drank it with his teaspoon at first.

You can of course order the drink or ask for Arla Lactofree milk in any of your usual drinks in Costa across the UK.

I love to keep a Costa pre-paid card in my bag. I’m not the type to impulsively stop for a coffee normally, and am far more likely to do it if I have a card ready and waiting, and it can make a rainy shopping day seem so much brighter when you sit down for a delicious coffee.

Vicki, recently saw and heard your comments regarding Parents posting photos of their children on the Internet.Channel 5 News (6.30pm viewing). Talking about your own situation / circumstances. I wonder how this will impact on the children in the longer term. Also was wondering if you discuss such topics with others who run / manage blog sites. Parenting is such a Responsible role.
