Life lessons from Frozen

HM_featured_post_300x169pxAdmittedly and unashamedly I’m completely and utterly FROZEN mad-possibly more so than my kids who both love it madly, deeply.

We have in fact watched this multi-Oscar winner back to back for weeks (why am I not bored of it yet?!-that Christophe is rather cute it must be said) and we seem to play the soundtrack on loop in the car daily (with a bit of Beyonce for good measure).

Yesterday, I even kept the car doors wide open, music blaring and twirled the boys around the front garden to ‘Do you Want to Build a Snowman?’. Thankfully my (new) neighbours are on holiday so the full swing Frozen party spared me a red face and it was so FUN people.

Seriously though, let’s look further than the wondrous musical pleasures to the touching film’s themes of sisterly bonds, overcoming adversity and the power of love which subliminally and subconsciously affects the younger viewers and more overtly the *cough older ones, teaching and encouraging us all to be quite frankly better human beings. It’s really that simple.

Yes I wish the waists of the female protagonists weren’t quite and there was greater ethnic representation (come on Disney) but otherwise this film has affected us ALL for the better don’t you think?

Not so sure, then let’s look at the life lessons RIGHT here from the songs’ lyrics from this hit film: stirring, truthful and so incredibly ear-wormingly addictive!

You’re welcome!

1. The importance of letting things go (yes we know Elsa must return and save her Kingdom eventually but at this point she needs release from the fears and those containing her:

Let it Go

Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door

Love the wise words below on how distance can make things seem much less severe from afar:

It’s funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can’t get to me at all

Adore the support Anna gives Elsa here:

For the First Time in Forever (reprise)

You don’t have to protect me I’m not afraid
Please don’t shut me out again,
Please don’t slam the door
You don’t have to keep your distance anymore

‘Cause for the first time in forever
I finally understand
For the first time in forever
We can fix this hand in hand

We can head down this mountain together
You don’t have to live in fear
‘Cause for the first time in forever,
I will be right here.

Important lesson on the reality that true love doesn’t mean perfection:

Fixer Upper

What’s the issue, dear?

Why are you holding back from such a man?
Is it the clumpy way he walks?

Cliff: Or the grumpy way he talks?

Female Troll 1: Or the pear-shaped, square-shaped
Weirdness of his feet?…

And most importantly the meaning and strength of love:

Bulda: We’re not sayin’ you can change him,
‘Cause people don’t really change. (Girl Trolls: Ahh Ahhh)
We’re only saying that love’s a force
That’s powerful and strange.
People make bad choices if they’re mad,
Or scared, or stressed.
Throw a little love their way.

There we have it, sure there are many more examples from the school of Frozen, but these are the ones that ping out to me-so are you as obsessed as we are?! *Say yes, say yes!
