Holiday Destinations This Christmas & New Year

Holiday destinations this Christmas and New Year…

We love holidaying in this house (well not in this house, that would be ridiculous and not like going away at all)…I’m talking escaping to still waters, golden sandy beaches and roaring heat.

Vacations abroad with little people are not always easy but so far, so good with the children experiencing trips to the South of France, Cyprus, Tenerife and Portugal, relishing in experiencing real sun, sea, different cultures and food they wouldn’t ordinarily eat. Hello buttery snails?! Yum!

My husband actually grew up in Port Elizabeth in South Africa and with his family still there, we often discuss if we should spend a sunny Christmas over there. We’ve holidayed many times in the country but have not yet been brave enough to visit with the kids.

Next year we’ve decided along with a summer holiday, we hope to book a winter one too. We need to escape the frost, bugs and boredom the cold brings for fun, sunny climes. Yes I love a traditional Christmas day with sumptuous food and a roaring fire but then I’m quite happy to escape to the sun.

Here are some places we have our eyes on:

Australia

I’ve always wanted to visit to Oz but never quite made it so maybe next year is the year it happens. A whole continent of its own, Australia is incredibly diverse with SO much to see. From tropical rainforests and gorges to crimson red deserts in expansive outback and not forgetting idyllic beaches and cosmopolitan cities, we might actually need a month away exploring! Top of my to do list is of course Ayres Rock and erm, Ramsey Street (no judgement?!).

South Africa

We’ve toured all around South Africa from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth and the wine routes too of course(!) but my priority when visiting next is to take the kids to see family they’ve not yet met from Aunts and Uncles to a Great Grandma. Of course we would experience the many awe inspiring safaris together and the Addo Elephant National Park is an all time favourite.

Seychelles

The Seychelles would be a dream holiday and one we have our hearts set on for the future! An archipelago of 115 granite and coral islands within the beautiful Indian Ocean, the Seychelles is literally picture perfect with pure white sand, clear seas and the most blue of skies.

I yearn to dive into turquoise seas, playing on the sand with the children before taking them to see incredible wildlife the country has to offer. A slower pace of life, holidaying in the Seychelles would be relaxing, even with little people!

Los Angeles

I LOVE LA and visited a few years ago with my brother when a film I directed screened at the LA Harbour International Film Festival. I luckily have close friends who live there, who showed me a wonderfully glam and fun side to the City of Angels and of course took me off the beaten track for incredible hikes up Runyon Canyon and great coffee in West Hollywood.

I would of course take the kids to Universal Studios and a trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach is a must-see with over 12,500 specimens from 550 species in 156,000 square feet of exhibit space!

My glam Aunt Zak and her husband live in Marbella and being only a short flight away, means we visit when we can. Favourite beaches include the famous La Fontanilla and we adore the Andalusian historic quarter with its Arab influences and fragrant orange trees for culture and shopping. Nearby pretty Estepona is more family friendly if Marbs gets a little too busy, with superb hotels and pristine beaches.

So do you go abroad for the festive period?
