Functional Home Decor Style With wilko

Honest Mum drinks tea from a gold striped mug

Having recently put our house on the market over in Yorkshire, we’re hoping buy in Berkshire this year, all being well. It’s undoubedtly a tricky time to sell a property right now but our estate agents are confident that the housing market will pick up once lockdown is over, so we’re positive but also realistic.

Admittedly, we’re content living in what we call our ‘holiday home’ in leafy Windsor, a chic city centre apartment, two minutes walk from Windsor Castle surrounded by parks, with a quick commute into London. It’s an easy way to live with my sons’ schools nearby and everything we need within easy grasp.

Moving here has also meant streamlining what we own (and if you follow my blog regularly, you’ll know that I’m constantly Marie Kondo-ing the space here, spring cleaning all year long). Living here in this temporary space has also meant having to hone in on my home decor style so anything new here has been carefully considered. I’ve purposefully chosen more minimalist pieces of furniture for example (striped cream sofas and light oak furniture) that would fit either a period or modern property depending on what we end up buying.

I’ve added splashes of colour with pretty faux flowers and art: framed Monet prints or my own still life oils along with work of friends and colleagues.

Today I wanted to share some pretty and functional new pieces c/o of wilko, (sellers of home and garden furniture as well as toys and stationery) so have listed them below. Everything arrived within days despite the current lockdown once I’d placed my order online. Stores are also open for essentials too.

I love the photos of the children putting the laundry in the basket and Xander sorting his favourite teddies from his HUGE collection into the storage cube.

Well made, sturdy, strong and stylish, these functional pieces have helped me organise my bath and bedroom, make coffee break a pleasure and look perfect in our home and will in yours, too. They really do spark joy in me and now I know exactly where all my hair and skincare items are, saving time and stress each day.
