‘Team work makes the dream work’ is the moral of the brilliantly captivating Chitty Chitty Bang Bang musical (the number 1 musical in the UK at that too)-and it’s a motto I like to live my life by.
You can read my thoughts on collaboration HERE.
Driving to Sheffield from Leeds to see my gorgeous pal Michelle Collins play Baroness Bomburst, was a joy from start to finish.
Xander, 3, got restless around 40 minutes in so Daddy took him out to explore the city but Oliver, 6 was captivated throughout and has been singing the songs (recalling the words from memory) ever since. It’s just the cutest thing!
Michelle was an absolute sensation in the show (the girl’s got moves and bring so much fun and charisma to Baroness Bomburst), angelic-voiced Lee Mead plays Caractacus Potts with lots of heart and vlogging sensation, actress and singer Carrie Hope Fletcher makes the ideal Truly Scrumptious, the chemistry between her and Lee was touching. The kids playing Jeremy and Jemima Potts were outstanding too-so confident and calm on stage!
A spectacle to watch with a dream team of an ensemble cast, I loved the reworking and modernising of this film classic: it’s funny, fun and moving too and Michelle is hysterically funny in every scene! Give that girl a one woman comedy show stat.
After the show, Michelle kindly gave us a tour of the theatre and we even got to stand on stage, the vision of the whole theatre in front of us. What a privilege.
And do you know, in those moments, something stirred in Oliver.
The following night when I tucked him up in bed and he sung Chitty to me, he casually mentioned he’d like to do ‘what those children on stage do’- to perform.
How flipping amazing is that?!
I’m going to look into him and Xander starting some drama lessons soon. To build their confidence and most importantly bring them joy doing something creative that might stay with them forever!
So thank you Michelle for sparking something so wonderful in Oliver and for making our Saturday so very special.
Snap up tickets (in Sheffield until the 17th July 2016 and at the New Wimbledon Theatre in London until 30th).
