I wasn’t sure whether there was any point in having Oliver vaccinated when the offer first came through for a flu jab last year.

The reason being I was ill-informed to be honest, I worried about needles, the unfounded concern it might actually bring on the flu, and I suppose the distress it might cause.

All silly in retrospect, tiny worries that were brushed aside thanks to a kind nurse keen to allleviate my worries.

My son was in fact given the opportunity to sniff the vaccine (I would have gone ahead had it been a needle anyway but at 3 and then this year at 4, it’s harder to console the pain or reasoning for it after a needle based vaccination).

I’ll always remember Oliver crying for hours after a previous pre-school needle-vaccination where he asked me over and over why I had let a nurse put a ‘spike’ in him!…Thank goodness for the vaccinations that can be sniffed now!

I must say, I wish I’d also seen this video here featuring the famous pediatrician Dr Ranj Singh from Cbeebies who clearly explains the importance of flu vaccinations (it would have stopped my initial fears in their tracks).. as he explores in this short documentary the importance of flu jabs in not only helping your kids but also vulnerable family members and the public too including the elderly, those already unwell or pregnant.

Really insightful stuff that will enable you to make an informed decision about giving your child the flu jab.

Please do watch the film below and share, it could make a big difference to many this Christmas. For more info head to the website.

Thanks
