boxI was actually about to start sorting and packing up toys to drop off at our local charity shop this Christmas when self-storage company LOVESPACE got in touch with exactly that request.
They’ve recently teamed up with Oxfam and are offering a charitable Christmas service collecting old or unused toys so they can donate them directly to Oxfam on your behalf.
My sons have so many toys that I felt rather disturbed sorting them by how much we accumulate for them both. We have a Big Fat Greek family who buy toys for them frequently and of course it seems never ending when it’s one small car here, another truck there, often just to get around the supermarket in peace.
Well it’s going to stop. Right now. There are so many toys, I can’t reach Oliver’s bed anymore! Aargh!
So last night Oliver (aged 3) and I filled 3 huge boxes (which arrived promptly once ordered) with old and unused toys from cuddly toys to noisy tractors and musical toys, as I explained we would be giving them to charity. We often give toys, clothes and books to charity as well as buying from charity shops too so he was well aware of what was happening.

He did ask for reassurance that not everything would be going though and of course there is still so much for them both to play with. Too much. Even now.

The toys packed away are in good nick (some brand new) but unnecessary and so many toys are simply overwhelming. You can’t play with 200 cars at once. And as you can see the most fun was had with the box.

I have even requested extended family don’t buy Christmas presents for the boys this year and donate to charity instead if they so wish.
The boys will receive a few presents this year but we won’t be going crazy. We might live in a material world but it’s time to give back. A lot.
Will you?
