Today, I met up with my wonderful friend Will (not Matt Damon, although striking resemblance that's for sure) for a late lunch at Carluccio's in Leeds as he was visiting from London for a meeting...
Kids have honestly made me more creative. That's a fact. I was of course creative before kids working as a screenwriter, director and magazine editor...you get the picture. I was born creative, baby. Hear me out though, those kids took my creativity to another level. Throughout history (and I've found throughout my life so far too), creativity arises and thrives within limitations, be it time, budget, tools/access, they exist and are are actually vital in making creativity happen.
Let me start by saying I do, some of my closest, most valued friends don't have kids (and several are free and single bad-ass ladies to boot), but some ladies without babies, ones I thought would stand the test of friendship time have fallen by the wayside since little people have arrived and well, it makes me a little bit sad.
So life gets busy, kids keep us up at night and the never ending juggle that is life and motherhood can really get on top of us all right. Well it's time to chill. Just ook at the sea above taken in Portugal last year (is it working yet?).
Taken a few years ago (look we’re nearly the same height… when I wear 5 inch heels)…see I am tall...
Being creative can be hard work. Hard to get the words onto the screen for that next draft, hard to get the confidence to write the book, launch the blog, heck even write that funny tweet. Creatives are riddled with self doubt. Fact.
I've written about friendship divorce before and it engaged some interesting debate so I'm returning with a 'Friendship Separation Summer Clean Up' (yes despite the rain it's summer folks). I think clearing out your friendship cupboard is crucial (at any time of the year), taking the time to rid negative people from your life or those that offer you nothing, allowing you to free up your time and energy for existing relationships and best of all, new found friends.
My opinion on oversharing!
Argh, friendship divorce..
Oh how long have I wanted to write this post!
