BritMums Live (for those of who don’t know) is the blogging conference of the century, bringing together fabulous bloggers from all over the UK and sometimes further afield, along with inspiring, informative speakers-par example Ruby Wax, Sarah Brown, Katy Hill and others and throwing in tonnes of educational workshops from (getting published to understanding the law), cake and of course cool sponsors to network with.
The husband and I filmed the event to create a promo film of all the highlights so those who attended can relive it, and those who didn’t, will no doubt find it unmissable next year! The film will take a few months to cut and be approved, but I’ll let you know when it’s live.
Here are some of my personal highlights from this weekend:
Meeting lots of bloggers whom I clicked with online (literally) and immediately gelled with in 3D offline. There was a lot of laughter, comparing of bumps and Big, Fat, Greek hugs!
Working with my husband who is in an incredible photographer (and now cameraman) as it was our first professional shoot together. Filming the kid in the bath doesn’t count right? It was so great to know we get on as well on a professional gig as we do in ‘real life’. It was so much fun working together and he is the most patient, sweetest cameraman I’ve ever collaborated with! Here’s to more jobs and the best bit is that I can get him for free! Dare I say it too, but we are so busy with young Oliver, that it was lovely to have dinner just the two of us, and get to just chill alone once the filming was complete. Won’t be lots more chance for that once baby No 2 is here in a few months…
More highlights included interviewing the dynamic, hysterical Ruby Wax (shame I didn’t ask for a photo) who highlighted the plight of those dealing with depression and her own battle and of course the formidable, highly professional Sarah Brown.
Sarah was once on a panel judging my directing work a couple of years back at the Red Magazine Red Hot Women Awards (where I was highly commended), yet although we were at the ceremony together, BritMums Live was the first opportunity to talk properly. Her keyspeech was utterly riveting and a personal favourite quote of hers included, “When people tell me I’m lucky not to work, I reply I’ll let you know when I’ve stopped”. Kind, clever and classically beautiful- I slightly fell in love with Sarah after our short time together.
Above is another Sarah from the super blog Grenglish and I with Sarah Brown after the interview, where she spent a long time mingling with bloggers.
…And I mustn’t forget the endearingly cheerful Katy Hill who presented the Brilliance in Blogging Awards (wonderful seeing some of my favourite bloggers winning by the way)-Katy was great company and gave a super interview (well if she couldn’t after all her years on Blue Peter, no one could!)
What a success BritMums Live truly was-hats off to founders Susanna and Jennifer who offer a vital platform on their website and of course with events such as this, to help give bloggers a voice. I look forward to sharing the video with you all when it’s ready.
Here’s to next year!
