Attending a Pinterest UK Event with Celebrity Hair Stylist George Northwood

London is always a whirlwind for me and last Wednesday was no exception.

Taking my Mum along for a rare night away and quite the party (more of that soon), I had some exciting meetings by day (I’ll reveal more when I’m allowed, I promise) taking us through chic coffee shops in Farringdon to the place I call home in the city, Charlotte Street Hotel, a bustling yet relaxing boutique hotel where meetings can turn to dinner easily and they serve the best fresh mint tea in town (with gluten free biscuits for dipping).

Being so close to Soho too, and the production company I have a TV project in development with, truly makes it the ideal place for my blogging and TV career to meet.

Its close proximity to the film, TV and media world often means being in illustrious company too..

Film powerhouse Harvey Weinstein was sat at the next table to us (I had to tell my cinephile Mum not to stare-Muuum!) and one of my favourite comedians ever- Jon Richardson (8 out of 10 cats) was to our left.

We did also pass David Walliams being filmed on Tottenham Court Road minutes earlier too. I do love the London buzz.

…The day was busy, stimulating and so full of promise.

Life as a blogger is never boring that much is true, and I really do LOVE it.

…After a quick spot of shopping after our meets (my Mum sure is hardcore when it comes to shoes) we got ready for Pinterest UK’s Event ‘Front Row Ready with George Northwood‘ a few streets away on 24 Wells Street.

And it was all so pretty-

…I must start off by writing that Pinterest really is my happy place online.

I’ve always said this.

But I’m honest too and will admit that I’ve cheated on it for a while with Twitter. A long while. Somehow, I stopped pinning regularly over the last year, only getting back to my old lover again a few months ago, but it’s safe to say I’m head over heels once more (sorry for the lusty metaphors, Valentine’s had quite the effect I think)!

Seriously though, what I ‘heart’ most about Pinterest is how personal it feels-my own little online world. Pink roses and a ‘I love Pinterest’ sign might help illustrate my adoration…

Please don’t get me wrong, I love interacting with everyone across my social media channels, the conversation on twitter rocks my online world but it’s good to have quiet time too and there’s something so utterly personal and compelling about curating my own passions in one small online space.

And it’s pretty diverse on my profile too-from boards dedicated to glorious glitter (make-up and vintage disco pics mostly), food, travel, home decor, kids style, love, people kissing (really, and truly beautiful too), my personal style, menswear and more, I’ve loved every  single second of getting back in touch with Pinterest.

And then, as with so often in this amazing blogging world, the universe (or pintervse) seemed to catch on to my reconnection with them and got in touch after I was recommended to them, saying they loved my pins and blog and wanted me to hotfoot it to a pre LFW event by Pinterest UK …

So of course, not wanting to let my ‘hair fans’ down (you know who you are twitter peeps), it was off to the salon I went, Mama on my arm (so this season) for cocktails, truffle-adorned pizza by Pizza Pilgrims), mini meringues by the famous Meringue Girls and, most importantly to meet the Pinterest UK team and Mr George Northwood himself, THE hottest hairstylist in town.

George his name deservedly in neon light, really is the man who can with scissors, tongs and more…

He’s the chap you ‘head’ to if you want an ‘Alexa’ (she describes him as a, ‘hair magician’ oh and his other muses just happen to include Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Gwyneth Paltrow (although he told me she’s now back in LA), Kim Kardashian, Reese Witherspoon and many, many more stars of today!

…George started his career at Daniel Hersheson, moving on to the Josh Wood Atelier before opening his own self-named salon at 24 Wells Street, W1 last year, a chic, understated super-cool New York loft style space where he tells me the A-listers love to sit with all his regulars, and mostly shun the private room he has there ‘just incase’…

It’s no surprise really, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and the least pretentious salon I’ve ever been in (a chic, tidier home from home) and that’s thanks to George along with Sally, his sister and head colourist, and the whole team who are sweet, humble and complete and utter experts in their field.

Good vibes all round equals happy hair and happy customers!

The night was a small, intimate affair, there was probably only 10 of us in total which made for a relaxed, fun evening, a chance to properly connect with Pinterest UK who’d really done their research, they’d read my blog, checked out my pins naturally, with even the man of the night George being familiar with my blog- testament to the true attention to detail and utmost respect they have for us bloggers.

They love us people!

As you can see the feeling’s mutual:

First things first, Mum and I settled in with one or two (hic!) tantalising cocktails by The Travelling Gin Company (quirky cocktail bikes in London and beyond) which instantly transported us to sunny quintessentially English country holidays, adding to the boho vibe of LFW 2015!

Then Pinterest asked if I wouldn’t mind George styling my hair for their press photographer. Mind? I was honoured and rather thrilled!

George’s tools-

But back to my locks-giving me a romantic 70’s style (the first time I’ve had it styled this way), George transformed my hair within minutes.

70’s is one of my favourite eras and as you can see George and I had a ball as he tousled my hair into loose waves.

He kindly said he thought my hair was ‘amazing’, such a compliment from a man who truly knows his locks. Thanks George!

And then he set to work-

To start, George flattened my hair from the root first with a hairdryer before curling with wide barrelled tongs around my face. He brushed it through with a big mason brush, added volume with a bit of backcombing and finally, lots of hairspray to hold it all together.

…Next, I had a little make-over as Isobel, the talented resident make-up artist at George Northwood created a glittery eye-look for me, channelling the boho meets glam vibes of the catwalks this season.

I’m a little bit obsessed with glitter so all the shine made me smile.
