How to style Kimonos for summer

The Art Of Layering: Clever Summer Styling

Dressing for the temperamental UK summer is no easy task. It can go from glorious sun to horrendous downpours in the blink of an eye and while my international readers may not believe me – our crazy British weather has even delivered all 4 seasons in just one day. From heatwave to snow storms within just 24 hours!

This unpredictability is a fashionista’s nightmare! This is where clever and stylish layering comes in. Clothes that can easily be shed or added as the mercury rises and falls. This look is also perfect for summer holidays – taking you from balmy days to cooler nights in style.

How to style Kimonos for summerFrom L-R Yumi Wild Flower Print Kimono from House of Fraser – £18 (was £36) | Geo Belted Kimono by Nobody’s Child at Topshop – £22 | White print festival kimono from River Island – £45.

Kimono? Kimo-yes! One of my favourite summer looks and the perfect way to unleash your inner hippy child.

Despite their folk-sy appearance, Kimonos aren’t just for festivals (although they definitely are a festival essential) and they’re great styled with skinny jeans and simple vest top in the summer. Another great styling tip is to wear over a LBD on holiday. Perfect for keeping shoulders protected from the suns rays during the day and then take off when the sun goes down for a glam evening look!

Summer Scarf

Summer Layering with sill scarves

L-R Balenciaga Printed silk-twill scarf from Net-A-Porter – £185 | Blue Harlequin Paisley Scarf By Liberty – £695 | Botanical Poppy Silk Scarf by Accessorize – £12.

The silk scarf is a summer essential. Oh-so versatile, it can be used to protect your hair in the sun, wrapped around your shoulders against a sea breeze, doubled up as sarong when poolside or simply to add a splash of colour to your outfit…whatever the weather.

Oh and did I mention it’s one of the chicest accessories…ever! Loved by the most glamorous of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.

Statement Jacket

Statement Jacket Summer Styling

L-R Moto Badge Oversized Jacket from Topshop – £30 (was £50) | Talitha Joey embroidered fringed silk-twill jacket from – £370 (was £823) | Conditions Apply Crop Jacket from Gather and See – £80 (was £160).

When the temperature’s soaring it can be tempting to keep it simple with just a vest and shorts. One of my top holiday styling tips is to always keep a lightweight statement jacket in your beach bag. It’s the perfect way to jazz up your outfit for a cooler evening.

This season, patchwork bags are big news, and as always, no summer wardrobe is complete without beautiful Aztec beading and fringing.

Sleeveless Jackets for summer styleL-R Theory Aggie Wool-Crepe Gilet from Net A Porter – £415 | Wallis Grey Belted Sleeveless Jacket – £15 (was £35) | Flin Sleeveless Suede Biker Jacket in Soft Taupe – £150 (was £295).

Gilets have become synonymous with faux fur and ‘puffa’ which pretty much rules them out during the summer months. However, formal sleeveless jackets are a summer saviour and layering staple for any fashioninsta.

This chic style lends itself to neutral palettes and as it’s summer opt for soft taupes, grey and pastels.
