It was a double whammy on Sunday with International Women’s Day and an early Mother’s Day celebratory lunch at Ask Italian on Spring Street in London. We adore Ask Italian and have been dining there for years. In fact, we celebrated Mother’s Day there last year and with my mama too!
With its striking art deco style decor (emerald tiles and Pinnable pop art framed posters and neon lights) : this is a visual love letter to Italy and you won’t want to stop snapping (or eating).
My favourites have to be the pretty paper marigolds hanging from the ceiling and the twinkling fairy lights nestled in corners by potted plants and draped across the bay windows, whatever the weather (and it was grey and drizzly outside this time), you’re immediately transported to sunshine at Ask Spring Street.
It’s the perfect spot to celebrate the mothers in your life and I’m exciting to be running a gift card competition so you can treat yourself and those you care about with lunch or dinner there. More details at the end of the post.
Let me just take a moment to praise the freshly made raspberry juice, sister of the sweet lemonade I love there. I can’t decide which tops first place but either way you need one in your life, with a paper straw bestowed with gold hearts of course. SO me.
(Thanks to Bombshell for my statement leopard print dress and Bardot Boho for my gorge orange bracelet).
So, what did we eat or rather what DIDN’T we eat?
Picking from both the Mother’s Day menu and the al a carte, the kids polished off veggie sticks with crudites and dips and then penne in tomato sauce and baked breaded chicken with chips and peas respectively. They were too full for dessert which is an all-time first and shows you how generous the portions are. Yay!
It was bruschetta and vegan lentil spaghetti for me and Peter plumped for burrata and king prawn and crayfish frilly tagliatelle for mains and Xander decided he’d like some chicken (he’s not veggie anymore) so ate the Pollo Milanese.
Dessert were dreamy vegan chocolate blood orange tart and honeycomb cheesecake and expresso to end.
Fresh, seasonal, homemade and utterly delicious, Ask Italian never disappoints.
Ali the manager and waitress Charlie went above and beyond and having known Ali for a few years now, you couldn’t wish for a more attentive team. He even bought me a bouquet of flowers to celebrate IWD. That sums up how thoughtful Ask Italian are, not just to bloggers like me coming in but to all their guests. I always like to observe how the staff are with the clientale when I review restaurants and Ask Italian make a point of putting families in particular at ease and they cater to all dietary requirements and needs.
P.S Don’t judge my hair, I’d be rained on so the frizz was in full force!
What a delightful lunch, thanks Ask Italian.
