Delicious Greek chicken soup.
Greek Almond Cakes (Kourabiedes), a must at any Greek Christmas.
My Dad aka Papa G to those of you who follow me on here, over on FB or YouTube will know him as is a real character.
One of this family's most-loved and most-visited places is the world-famous National Railway Museum in York.
Cake always tastes so much sweeter when it's in aid of charity.
We love Pancake Day in this family but to be honest Papa G has a penchant for pancakes all year long; I distinctly remember treat breakfasts of piles of pancakes growing up and my Dad teaching my brother and I how to make the perfect pancake.
Late last year I shared that my family and I were filming something top secret for telly and now, finally, all can now be revealed.
Take one car-loving blogger (me) plus her super-funny Papa G and the breathtaking Bowcliffe Hall in the village I live in (how cool though?), pose in cool cars, shoot, test drive then eat exquisite food- and what do you get? THE BEST DAY EVER that's what!
Tzatziki is a healthy, refreshing dip mostly served as meze (part of several Greek courses) using crusty bread or pitta bread to dip in but it can be enjoyed alone as a snack.
Now, I'm not going to lie, my interest in football is pretty limited.
What Makes Christmas Special For Us
What makes your house a home? For me, it's the family dinner and the whole clan gathering around the kitchen table for a hearty home cooked meal. Food always has and always will bring all the boys to the yard. My boys anyway ;)
Tomorrow, 3 generations of the family - myself, my husband Peter, our 2 sons: Oliver and Alexander and my parents - will be heading Alicante staying in a villa kindly c/o of James Villas.
With Father's Day not far off, on Sunday June 21st, I'm starting to plan how I'll be spoiling the 2 main (grown) men in my life - my husband of 10 years, Peter, and of course the one and only Papa G.
This is quite honestly the best rice dish in the world. A good friend of mine actually travelled the world tasting rice (and you know, holidaying) and she concluded that there's no rice quite as delicious the Olive Tree Greek Restaurant's rice so who am I to disagree. Well who am I? The owners' daughter of course-so you see disagreeing isn't an option. It is amazing though. Papa G's rice with vermicelli is incredible, crunchy, buttery, light-absolutely the perfect side dish.
Lamb Kleftiko is a firm favourite in this house. It literally means ‘stolen’ and the name was derived during the Ottoman Empire when Greek freedom fighters stole lamb, goats or sheep and cooked the meat in clay ovens or underground to eliminate smoke not to betray their positions. The lamb was cooked very slowly until it literally fell off the bone.
This Sunday I turn 34 and on the 10th my blog turned a whopping 4! Honest Mum was officially born on the 10th of November in 2010 but like to celebrate my very FIRST POST along with my birthday!
On Sunday, the family and I braved the crazy winds and took shelter in the melting pot of restaurants that is the Trinity Kitchen within the landmark Trinity Shopping Centre in Leeds...But before we get there though, I must share some pictures with my Dad, Papa G who was my date for the Trinity Kitchen's 1st Birthday party last Thursday first...
We hosted Papa G's birthday at our house yesterday for an early dinner that saw me hitting the sack before my guests left (what a lightweight)!
Papa G's Greek Bean Casserole (Fasolada) is simply wonderful.
