This recipe is from What to Eat and How to Eat It: 99 Super Ingredients for a Healthy Life by Renée Elliott.
Christmas was a complete and utter sugar-fest here (when is it not) and whilst I'm all for moderation (life without cake isn't worth living right?), nothing was moderate about the feasting over the Christmas holidays and frankly, I ended up feeling rubbish.
I'm a huge fan of juicing as it's a brilliant way to get goodness into the whole family's bodies! My eldest Oliver is bit of a fussy eater, so juicing is a fab way of sneaking fruit and vegetables into his diet, especially for breakfasts on the (school) ru...
It's all about healthy eating for me after an indulgent 'eat everything in sight' kind of Christmas so I'm back to the wholegrain way of life, lots of fish, pulses and importantly plants. I'm limiting s...
Coming to the end of nursing if you've breastfed can be an emotional time. I know it was for me.
Yep, 35 years is a long time to finally reach the point where I can hold my hands up and categorically state that diets don't work- and by diets I mean excessive, food group eliminating, calorie restricting, punishing diets so you know, ALL DIETS which serve to create obsessive habits and frankly, drain the life out of eating actual FOOD WHICH IS MEANT TO BE NOURISHING AND FUN.
Urgh, right now it feels like greater pressure- on top of weight pressures- to not be able to actually admit I'm feeling down about my weight going up!
The whole family are salmon-lovers here so this is our go-to dinner at least once a week and particularly on the weekend.
This is a super refreshing salad that makes me think of summer whatever the weather (looks outside at the rain).
A couple of weekends ago I attended the incredible Britmums Live, the biggest parenting conference in the UK. You can read about the conference in full here, but needless to say, it was a stimulating, inspiring weekend full of fun, debate, laughter and a chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones too!
So folks, this is day 8 of my vegan detox and it no longer feels like a detox to be honest, but dare I say it, a way of life!
The last few weeks have seen my usually pretty healthy way of eating go to pot, with lots more sugar finding its way into my diet from celebratory cakes to afternoon teas and far too much champagne (with my recent 10th wedding anniversary, my brother's engagement and baby cousin's birth)- making me feel sluggish, tired and really not my best, physically and mentally. I've less energy than usual, haven't been sleeping well and my PMT is worse than ever.

This nourishing heart-warmer of a soup is a real hit here with the whole family. I find soup generally an easy way to get vegetables into my children, particularly in the winter. I like to make tomato soup in bulk and freeze it so it's a cost effective dish too.
After what was an indulgent Christmas period for us all comes January and the start of a new year, a great time to detox our bodies and mind (hello yoga) and return to healthier ways! Just because you're eating healthily though, doesn't have to mean boring meals-we follow an 80-20 healthy whole food way of eating here which works for us and one of our favourite lunches is this quick and easy to make Smoked Salmon Niçoise Salad.
I try and live as healthy a lifestyle as possible and that includes high quality cocoa and dark chocolate in my balanced diet. For those who don't know (where've you been?) cocoa is a superfood bursting with endorphin-releasing ingredients, antioxidants, calcium, magnesium and iron, great quality chocolate is oh-so good for you. One of my all time favourite chocolatiers Hotel Chocolat also believe that everyone should be able to include top-quality chocolate at the heart of their healthy lifestyle, and what's more, cocoa-rich chocolate is perfect for optimising sports performance too. Good news at this time of year in particular with new starts and motivation to get fit after the indulgence of Christmas! Here at Honest Mum, one lucky reader will be getting their hands on this gorgeous Sports Performance gift box which includes Supermilk Puddles, a Dark Fruit & Nut Slab, a Supermilk Hazelnut Slab, Classic Drinking Chocolate,Cocoa & Peppermint Infusions, and three 35g Rabot 1745 bars: Dominican Republic 100% Dark, Ecuador 70% Milk, and Saint Lucia 100% Dark. Wow!
So thanks to Hannah of Mums Days who recently spoilt me with several gifts for my birthday, one being the book Eat Pretty, I have quit chicken and am eating, well, everything to make me feel (and hopefully) look my best.
For those who follow my blog, you'll know just how passionate I am about healthy food and snacks for my kids and myself. I love that this video by Ella's Kitchen has been dubbed a 'Good Snacking Revolution' and is basically a mini picketing demonstration from a bunch of socially conscious tots who are standing up for their right to healthy snacks!
